Playing Hungary on Immortal and only Germany is left to conquer. Really looking forward to some great battles after seeing all their armor roaming around. After declaring war though German armor armies just drive around. But, then, six of these armies sail over to an island with three of my cities. They surround one city, a motorized artillery unit joins them. What happens? Nothing. Again, they just drive around wasting fuel. Sigh.

So freaking sad. How is this still a thing?

How can it not be? The "feelings" crowd beats the heck out of us, the "challenge" crowd.

I recommend Civ 5 + Vox Populi for a superb experience: the best of civ 4 and civ 5 in one package, with a superlative AI.

That’s terrible! I don’t understand the conflict designing thus game for players who want the game to be easy or hard, because it has like 8 difficulty levels! So why not let the AI be a big punching bag on Prince and actually kill the player at least once in a while on Deity?

No one should be griping about lack of challenge on the easiest levels, just go up a notch. But likewise no one should complain a level called Immortal or Deity is not fun because it’s too hard. Just go down a notch then. Sadly the hardest levels are almost impossible to lose if you survive the first 50 turns. Not sure if this is intentional or just really bad AI. Civ 4 AI could actually win a cultural or space victory but I have never once seen the AI win a game.

Where have you been the last 20 years??? This is the Instant Gratification Generation; everything has to be easy so that "everyone is special, Dash", or else heavy snowflake-melting occurs...

I use Steel and Thunder mod.
I just feel that Firaxis is pushing the alternatives to war so much that they have neglected those gamers who want to play for a domination victory. I just don’t find a cultural or diplomatic victory very satisfying. I always hoped CIV would start to incorporate a battle mode similar to Total War, but that seems unlikely.
Who here would be for that?

Hi Aristos - I'm surprised you aren't recommending Real Strategy + Smooth Difficulty + FortifyAI mods for Civ6. They really help the AI a lot and the challenge is starting to match what I had when I played VP. Put it this way, I'm on the same difficulty now for both Civ6 and VP mod.
