Hi folks

I am an avid CIV gamer but i heard of 'Freeciv'? its new to me and i know nothing about it !! I would love to give it a go but I am no computer expert.

Im not sure if this is the right area to talk about it?

anyway, does it work on WIn98/2000 or XP?

IS that all i need to download it and install or do i need someother special programme/programmes?

Is there a particular version I need?

Any other advice is greatly appreciated

Cheers

It should work on Win98 and 2000. The site will confirm if it works with XP - I should think it would seeing the newest version came out after XP.

There are two separate but complemenatary programs (and therefore downloadable files):
a Server, and
a Client.

This is because Freeciv is designed especially for multiplay although you can play it against the computer (SP, with a rather more limited AI than Civ2)

There are adequate instructions on how to install the two programs.

Yes, the Windows version - follow the appropriate link in www.freeciv.org (There is a version for Linux, which I use).

If you're used to playing Civ2, the transition should be fairly smooth. It doesn't take long for you to get used to starting the Server and then the Client.

It is worth while downloading the extra graphics (basically "skins") which give the appearance you like best. My favourite is "HiRes" which is very similar to the version for Civ2.

Happy Freeciving!
