Anyone ever play this game? Is it fun? Sounds like that old RPG called 'Traveller' I used to play.

Origin's Privateer & Privateer II were better, except they had no multiplayer. But I was quite disappointed when I noticed I couldn't use my joystick.

You can't use a joystick?

Was it just your particular one, or you can't use one at all? I was looking at this and waiting for it to go in the bargain bins -> I loved Privateer!

I've tried everything, ainwood, but it's simply not supported. :( At least, not for the shareware. But I'm positive that doesn't matter.

You can't use your joystick (any joystick) with freelancer, you can only control it by mouse. At first I was shocked, but the mouse-control is done really good IMHO, so I didn't miss my joystick all that much.

but I agree with matrix the two privateers were better

I was pleasantly surprised with how good the mouse only control is in freelancer. It doesn't take long to get used to, and you won't miss your joystick at all IMHO.

I played this for a couple of hours the other day, and I was impressed. Reminded me of Elite and SpaceTrader for the Palm.

Looking forward to getting it this weekend. It's been a while since I've been this enthralled with a game since I started playing Civ3 two years ago. I think I found one that will keep my attention for a while.

I played it, it's not bad, the storyline is good.
