Hi,

i want to present here my little Civ1-Gamelog. Every time i am able to master a difficulty level, i will try the next:

Chieftain of the Babylonians, spaceship victory in 1859 AD, population 25,160,000, score 1398, civilization points 27%

Warlord of the English, spaceship victory in 1887 AD, Population 28,970,000, Score 1415, civilization points 56%

I've noticed in both games, that the oponents are getting faithless beyond 1AD. Even peaceful civilizations are attacking me, offering technologies doesn't help. Maybe because i've been the leading civilization in population and science at that time.

At warlord, the oponents are a little tougher, but defeated 2 medium civs until 1000 AD, the rest was routine.

My first attempt playing the french on prince sadly failed... - but what a interesting game it was!
I'm wondered first, why i am getting two settlers - i've got an excelent starting position: 1 gold, 1 fish and 3 grassland with shield fields. But soon i spotted my next neighbor - it was the amiable Stalin. He declared war on 2300 BC, i've got 4 cities until then. He captured one and destroying two of them by inflicting heavily physical damage with one chariot. Gracefully he signed peace, so i had just my capital. I finished my pyramids and after a very short period of democracy he declared war again. He was at war with the greeks, but they lived on a different continent. Luckily i matched to defend my position with comunism:borg:. I founded a second city on the equal position three times and after short periods of peace he destroyed them again and again. On 1AD i'd got a quite good defending position, owning three phalanxes and two chariots, but then luck left me. On 100 AD my capital was conquered. Better luck next time :pat: !?

Greetings :woohoo:

Yes, the AI does become more aggressive after 1 AD, and also the cost of science research doubles. The AI doesn't seem to consider technological advancement an indicator of power though. It uses a crude power rating system, in which your total attack/defence rating (the sum of all your units' A/D) is stacked against its own. Meaning that you can have two armor units, a total of 20/10, and if the AI has 30 militia (30/30), it'll still think it's more powerful than you. Or that's what I've gathered. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

I think the AI gets more aggressive around 2000bc too, up until approximately that date the AI wont attack and will always offer peace. I usually play on emperor or emperor +1 or +2, a difficulty level that can be obtained by hacking the save file with a hex editor. The easiest way to play Civ one is to build as many cities as fast as possible, improve terrain and switch government to republic. While in republic use luxuries to keep people happy and use We Love the President Day to increase population fast. In order to grow fast I always neglect military. An emperor +2 game is really challenging, since you don't get any content citizens in the start.
