I have absolutely no idea what happened in my computer, but I was watching a movie 2 days ago and I had something to do, so I decided to watch the rest of it the day after.

Then when I opened the same movie with the same player yesterday, it was upside-down. Then I tried with every single player I had (I even downloaded 2 new ones). Same, it was upside down.

Today, when I wanted to try again, it won't play anything at all. Every single video player gives me the message "Error! xvidcore.dll not found" and goes non-responsive, or starts giving me this error over and over again until I forcefully close the program from the Task Manager.

Now I can't watch anything on my computer, and I have absolutely no idea what's wrong with it and what changed since it last worked. I'm perfectly aware what a .dll file is, what is its purpose and why programs can't work with missing .dlls. But what can I do about it? And just for curiosity, how did the file simply disappear (assuming it disappeared)?

It's really annoying, I would appreciate any help. :) Thanks.

You could try a system restore to the point before you first started having trouble. If that fails and you have the Windows CD you could try a repair install. That might overwrite the missing or corrupted directory file. You also might want to scan your comp for viruses with an updated virus scan just to be safe.

On a similar topic ( well, only somewhat ). If you ever have problems playing movies or videos, try installing the K-Lite codec pack.

Thanks!! It works perfectly now! :woohoo:

The interesting thing is that I've never had the XVid installed before though...

The file may have been in another codec pack you've installed earlier.
