I think future eras should be added to Civ4 because it would be more realistic. I don't wont to go to far in to the future. it just don't seem right in the modern age we can't even go to Mars but we can go to Alpha Centauri. Maybe the game could go to 2200AD not 2050AD. Here are some new Techs.

FUSION POWER- YOU CAN BUILD THE REACTOR TO THE UNITY AND FUSION POWERPLANTS (TRIPLE PRODUCTION)

LASER WARFARE- NEW UNIT LASER TANK AND LASER TROOPERS

WARP DRIVE-UNITY ENGINES ALPHA STRIKE FIGHTER AND DELTA WING BOMBERS AND LET YOU BUILD SPACE CITYS

SPACE COLONIZATION -LETS YOU BUILD SPACE FARMS AND SUPPLY COLLECTORS (GIVES SUPPLYS FROM EARTH TO HELP PRODUCTION IN SPACE CITYS)

AQUA COLONIZATION- UNDERWATER CITYS UNDERWATER FARMS UNDERWATER MINES AND UNDER WATER TUBES ALLOW UNITS TO TRAVEL UNDER WATER AND ALLOW TROOPS TO TRAVEL FROM LAND CITY TO UNDERWATER CITYS

ROBOTICS- YOU GAN BUILD ROBOT PLANES AND TANKS AND MEGA MINES AND MAGNETIC ROADS (THE FASTEST WAT TO MOVE TROOPS) ROBOTIC FARMLAND (THE BEST FOOD SOURCE)

just a few of my idea tell me what you think or post your idea about the futures eras.

Fusion-Yes, they had it in Civ 2
Laser-Yes, but needs fusion to power it
Warp Drive-NO! This is Civilisation not Star Trek
Space Colonisation-No, where would you build cities. Moon Colonisation-yes, but travel takes 1 turn
Aqua Colonisation-yes, I want to add aqua cities in CivIII but can't figure the graphics. Also, it needs several techs, not just one.
Robotics-yes.

Maybe just finding a way to integrate Civ4 with SMAC is the key. Isn't SMAC sort of a continuation on Civ 2? Maybe it was just the marketing.

And Civ2 had aliens in it, that could use warp gates (or sth like that) to go from Alpha Centauri to your own world, as did the midgard scenarios. On the other side of the argument, Does anyone really need 2,3,4+ worlds to conquer?

on a side note, I'd love to see some sort of Midgard scn for Civ 3 (or 4).

No freaking way!

We already have things in Civ that are more advanced/we haven't invented yet, that's more then enough. Civ is a Historical Strategy game, not a Sci Fi game.

No, I'm dumb.

Civ is about the flow of the history. As none of the things you mentioned exist yet, it is hard to say what or how they would effect the flow of events.

I'm not worried though. The guys at Firaxis enderstand this.

No im dumb

When I want sci-fi, I play other games... don't ruin Civ by trying to guess the future. "More realistic" - what are you talking about? How can it be more realistic to include more things that haven't (and might not) happen in reality?!? And sorry, many of your proposed new techs sound pretty corny to me. Warp drive? MattII has it right - this is Civ, not Star Trek!

I'm dumb too. I wouldn't mind getting more ~points~ if I go to the trouble of researching hods of future techs tho'

Wow...what an objective poll.

I wouldn't mind future eras, but perhaps it should be kept as an option you could turn off...

I think they should add a few more techs that are current like: genetic engineering, maybe radio:D. (wireless technology should be at least a sub-technology of electronics)

Maybe not have a future era, but give some worth while bonus for discovering future techs, the way future techs are calculated into the score is worthless as it appears to be an averaged by the 540 turns in the game which usually doesn't give me more than a fraction of a point per future tech.

No, I'm dumb too. The very first question in the game is "Can you build a civilization that can stand the test of time?". This test of time, in my opinion, may be ending when, after having completed the human network on earth, in effect the first settlers have been sent to another planet. And wether this planet is part of Alpha Centauri or within our solar system, that shouldn't matter for the game.

Jaca

Some technologies should be added to reflect current trends. Like remote recon, Robotic patrols, Laser satellites, especially satellite recon/imaging...
There could be an option for things like underwater cities, moon bases, mars bases, laser troops...but these should be left for fans to make, as Completed Modpacks.

To some extent, yes. But then there already is some future era stuff in civ3!

What i'd like better is more ages throughout.

ok you have SOME good point like lasers, and fusion
warp drive is a good idea but maybe it should be called Ion drive or something like that

Space colonization you would build citys like you do in CTP but moon colonization is a good idea too

Aqua colonization you would have a few more tech like aqua farming and aqua mining now the graphics should be like in CTP1 and CTP2

ok here are some ideas

FUTURE ERAS COULD BE TURNED ON AND OFF

WHY DO YALL SAY NO TO FUTURE ERAS? IT WOULD MAKE MORE SENCE TO HAVE THEM IN THE GAME WE CAN'T GO TO MARS BUT WE CAN GO TO ALPHA CENTAURI DON'T ASK ME I DON'T GET IT EITHER.

MAYBE HAVE SOME ALIENS (THAT COULD BE TURNED ON AND OFF) THE XI THE ATRIA YOU KNOW SOME COOL NAMES LIKE THAT.
