BTW, PTW and vanilla are basically the same thing. The differences are less than those between CIV4 1.09 and 1.52. IOW, they are different enough that it is sometimes difficult to compare results but not nearly enough to justify separate competitions, especially since the GOTM has implemented the PTW civs under vanilla.
As such, the SGOTMs should clearly NOT support both vanilla and PTW. Two varieties is already enough without mixing in a third. I am vaguely in favour of vanilla over PTW in order to address the concerns of those people who only have the former. The flip side is that PTW is (marginally) a better game.
As you point out, there is overwhelming support for C3C over the older games. This being the case I think it would be a serious error to attempt to support both PTW and vanilla. My preference would be to support one of the two half the time. OTOH, I quite understand your case for a C3C-only game.

, I know that's not going to happen. I won't be too upset though if the future SGOTM's switch to C3C only.
