G+K: Multiplayer Issue - Player Joining After Game Has Started

I started a 7-player Marathon game earlier today and, about 80 turns in, one of my other friends wished to take over the AI. Unfortunately, when he took over the AI, he came in under Chieftain difficulty while the rest of us were playing on Prince. Obviously, this put him at a massive advantage relative to the rest of the group. I did a search on here as well as on Google and couldn't find anything that would lead me to believe I can change the settings for him. Is there a way I can switch his difficulty to Prince or am I just going to have to kick him/let the other players team up against him and wipe him out?

I play multiplayer with my brother and we prefer to start next to each other. So what we tried was both starting our multiplayer until one of us got a good start location. However, when I joined his game it puts me in as chieftain difficulty and we can't change it. Is there a way to change it? Also is there a way to use all the same settings and reseed the map, that would be a lot easier as well.
