G-Major 36

yup. cottage spam everywhere. Napoleon and Monty as neighbors. haha. so exciting

I would have loved for this Gauntlet to last even longer, but with it ending around now, i have to admit defeat. My final attempts last night started out really nice, but were all ended at the hands of enemies invading much to early with archers and chariots... They were unable to take one of my cities, but forcing me to stop wonder production and razing off my improvements and hunting down my workers that was enough to slow me down too much :-(
I even got the suspicion that if you start out too nicely, the AIs wil attack you even earlier, but perhaps that is just paranoia.

Anyway, looking forward now to see your game published. Congratulations! (Unless someone else slipped in an even earlier finish, of course)

Looking at the player log of the #1 game, i'm a bit suprised.

ryzax, you actually declared war on the warmongerers and destroyed justinian and isabella early on? Was your strategy actually designed around doing an early rush (with axemen?) or how did that come about?

yup. I am used to immortal/emperor domination so my basic strategy is to capture cities on the first 150 turns (on marathon, of course). Axe-rush, immortal rush (if i play persia, of course) or quechua-rush (if i play inca).

I declared war on monty because he had an undefended worker lingering around and I can't just resist capturing it. haha. Before you start the early rush, you have to have at least 2 workers so you can chop faster.

But more than that, I was super super lucky that Justinian and Isabella are my neighbors. By experience, Izzy and Justinian usually get the first religions. thanks to them, I got the hindu and buddhist holy cities. In fact, at the end of the game, I have all 7 religions with the holy cities of 6 of those religions in my empire. :)

Congrats to the podium finishers then!

Also thanks to the HoF staff for thinking up an enjoyable marathon gauntlet ;) I think all the warmongers definitely made this one bearable.
