Winning is a problem after all.

To win an emperor game isn't a problem! However, to be able to play a huge map without crack (I mean system crack, not drug) is a problem!

yes, huge is pretty...huge. ;)
I can now usually wipe out 4 civs in the BCs (in the current game I got the 4th at 220BC, fastest so far), but then it slows down.
Combined arms seem to be a must in the AD, because of everybody having the counter units and walled up cities. I doubt I'll be able to get below 1000AD.

Uhmm... I was talking about winning this gauntlet, which is Huge Emperor.

I'm giving up.
It's shortly after 1000AD, estimated finish for this game certainly after 1500. Too many units to move each turn, and the computer performance is going down.
No more huge gauntlets please!

Agreed!!! Huge gauntlets are long and inpossible.

Not "inpossible"!;) For example, going to another planet isn't impossible. It's just that we can't do it safely with the current technology. The same thing with civ4 on a huge map, it can rarely be done in one single gaming session without system crash.

I think I'm going to look for video driver update now. May be I will give this gauntlet another run. So far, I just had the latest video driver from Microsoft. Not sure if it's the latest one or not.

I just adore the irony of Moonsinger's rhetorics:

- "liberated" unhappy people sacrifice themselves at building the courthouses where corrupted metropolian officials will be tried and thus decrease their taxes
- as well grateful liberated people will die in Rome's colliseum (pity it's not modelled in-game)

Then its impossible for now. ;)

It's very well possible, too. However, it's a lot of hassle.
In the end (1000AD, 4 opponents left, one of them being 'processed') it took me quite long for each turn, and most of it was boring maintenance work - moving around units, adjusting city production and the like - and that it starts to slow down overall in performance doesn't help making it more interesting.
Playing the game to an end, victoriously, wouldn't be a problem. Neither from a gameplay nor from a technical point of view. However, since I'm playing to have fun, and that game isn't fun to me any more, I quit.

I was talking about visit the planets but right ;), it can be won but the lack of will makes the gauntlet impossible to win. (mentally) :D

If I tried this, and I won't bc my cpu can't handle it, I would either be the mongols or the russians. You want a fast mobile unit for conquest. The cossack would GUARANTEE a conquest in the 1000-1500 range. A Keshik would be tougher but also very good.

I had the same mobility thought, that's why I went with Hatty. I'm quite certain she's better than any of the Khans, because the UU is only 1 strength less, costs about half, and aggressive doesn't work on mounted units either. I'm not sure if Keshiks have retreat chances either, and the terrain movement isn't a big thing.

Russia might be interesting. The downside is you need to tech pretty well to get to cossacks fast and have a good window of opportunity, as a result you probably won't be able to do more than two or three conquests before them (axers, macers).
That guaranteed conquest you're talking about is also not what it seems. Let's assume there are 6 opponents left, by that time they'll be well-developed, and even if you catch the first ones with their pants down (and longbows in their cities), you still won't finish the last one before rifles. Don't underestimate the production you need for those cossacks either.

I'm actually kind of curious how this might turn out, but I myself lack the patience and motivation to try again, or continue one of my earlier games. I also wouldn't advise it - even if your computer can handle it. You'll find out why after 10-12 hours of play. ;)

I'm going to roll out G-Major 2 with the update today. However, this Gauntlet will remain open and run concurrently until the original completion date.

One technical question - if I submit the game for the MajorI, should I specify anywhere it is for the the tournament and not just for HoF?

Nope. We've set up the server to handle it automatically.

Thanx for fast reply and for the game. Although I finish my another attempt and never touch Huge Epic anymore :D

Edit: one more question - is 1.61.004 allowed for the G-MajorI? I would really like to implement the wonderful Map Finder you guys made as I'm sick of regenerating it by hand.

Well it required by the 25th and that's sooner then the G Major 1 cutoff so has to be allowed :) Not like it changes the game play or anything so shouldnt be an issue

Yes. I'll get that change posted as soon as I get around to updating my signature with the new mod.
