G-Minor XLV

this is gonna be my first HOF submission, so i'm wondering if it is allowed to submit a game now and another, possibly better try later? i won on turn 264, but i feel there is still some room for optimization.

You can submit as many games as you want.
Even those that are not in the gauntlet settings.
As long as you follew the rules.
Have fun!

Had a decent game going, somehow forgot there are more prereqs for archaeology than just navigation. Finished oxford on the exact turn to grab archaeology, and was forced to take guilds.

Time to reroll.

After having rerolled a few times looking for a fast start, I think my submitted Spain game was much luckier than I realised. Shame I made so many mistakes playing it.

I tried this out and got a 303 turns finish, just to clarify: we are on EPIC speed on settler difficulty right?
I am playing with God and Kings +DLC and it seems everyone is way faster with 260-270 finish, given the ~20 turns required to build the Utopia project and the hammers required to built it(thus implies the need for industrialization for coal plant, fertilizers for +1 hammer hills and possibility the hydro dam) it seems somewhat impossible to me, is Vanilla very different from G&K to allow such difference in speed?
also when I play as Spain and find a world wonder i only get 250g on EPIC SETTLER settings, i used to get 500g when I play this month Major on EPIC KING settings, which is very curious...

spain's bonus gold scales down with difficulty below prince. don't ask me why

how important do you guys think is the presence of cultural city states for a fast finish? i have had a very nice start with spain right now but after ~35 turns i have not found a single cultural CS (11 of 16 already discovered)

Well, the issue with cultural CS is that the bonus is static. You can't snowball with it. However, say that 1 CS may give you 0.5-2 turns faster finish. From my last submission, I would have gained 1 turn if I have had one more CS (I had 3) because in order to get 1 less turn on the last policy, I required roughlt 30 more cpt. Which I couldn't muster.

But I also lacked 3 hammer pt in capital. 3 more hammers and I would have got Utopia down to 15 turns. So there we have two more turns. Ended up with 266. And as the lower known number is 264 it was a tad annoying. :)

To annoy you further I will announce that I got a 265 finish with Spain lol
it really comes down to the balance between max culture while keeping up with tech... reaching archaeology to rush freedom and having Chemistry, Scientific theory and Industrialization for hammering Utopia is a must for fast finish..

I think breaking the 260 line will probably nail the medals for this Minor :king:

Got it done on turn 315, got a GBR but not a great position otherwise.

Is it possible to roll a GBR + El Dorado map? I think those together for this would be a powerful start.

How many opponent civs do you conquer on your maps? I took down 2 and had 3 research agreements, leaving the others as inbetween.

What does everyone pick for their religious traits? I chose One With Nature/Mosques/+2 gold per city/Cathedrals/Messiah

Beengalas, what are some of those snowballing/static points you are talking about? I think that is where I'm losing all my efficiency. Like I can feel that I'm not using my gold effectively at times, and that my culture queue is all out of order, but I don't know how to improve it.

anyone tried with a civ other than spain?

It's possible to se an Ethiopia or Sweeden civ doing better than Spain...if there is no GBR or el dorado :D

anyone tried with a civ other than spain?

I don't play Spain. I go with Babylon, Ramessess, Napoleon and Korea so far. I refuse to restart to much. Think its kinda sad with so many restarts just to get a NW. (And I find the bonus overrated :) )

t.266 with France. After playing 5-6 games for this gauntlet i tend to think somewhere between 250-260 is doable.

EDIT: Another game with France - t.258.

How important is settling popped settlers quickly (ie from ruins)? especially if they are far from capital. I suppose, on settler, settling quickly in an ok spot is better than settling on an optimal spot. Though some consideration needs to be taken for when the next policy will pop.

How many cities are people running?

Well, you could do like me. And place the city on the other side of the map. (found the settler half-ways).
