Gain a high % at the end without World Domination?

Hey I'm new here and this is my first post so if someone else posted this before or I'm in the wrong forum, please don't hesitate to tell me.

Again my question:
Is it possible to gain a high % score, stop all other AIs from advancing their researches to nuclear missiles and spaceships? Without the need of World Domination?

I have tried dozens of time in different games but I still haven't came up with a solution. I always ended up killing off all my neighbors.

Thanx

Well you can cripple a civ without completely obliterating them....just control their cities, destroy enough of their army and make them your pets.......

If you make sure they are caged, the pet will be at your mercy......

I generally play the peaceable kingdom; I try to treat other Civ's with respect but its only a matter of time before SOMEBODY irritates me into removing them from the game. I am not concerned with High Scores; if I finish the game and am happy with how my kingdom looks at the end, then I am satisfied - I don't need to conquer the world. Although I awlays feel the need to win the Space Race.

Yeah it's possible, but you won't do it without massive expansion in the number of your cities. Get yourself a large map. In fact take the one from Game Of The Month #2. It's ideal to try this one out. It's at King level and it's a large map. Thunderfall prestarted it so you've got a small number of cities and a few years have passed. My experience with that game is that you can get to 50 or more cities by the year 1000 AD. You will need to wipe out only the English. Whether you do the same with the Russians is up to you. And there are a bunch of other civs too. After that you can still get a REALLY big score (more than 800% if you really want) wiping people out or a good score (say over 300%) by just leaving the others and fighting a defensive war.

Want a really really big score? You have to control the game completely. That means controlling the world completely except for one only pet AI city. Otherwise you never get to the endgame with 250 cities all growing like wildfire because instead you'll be forced to launch a spaceship to get there first. Do the huge score thing once, but don't blame me if you find it tedious and boring!

Thx but extending the question:

The I'm currently playing with the large world map which makes crossing the ocean a major problem.

Especially when the AIs are aggressive expanionists, its hard to stop them especially when they are across the ocean (I've just finish my conquest from South America to North). I have delayed the Manhatten Project for around 100 years but they have caught up and are basically all allied against me and my 1 city ally left alone in Asia. Even though I follow a peaceful democratic policy, they won't stop and I know that once they can build nukes, they will build dozens of them and launch them against my cities.

All in a sudden, 3 huge but lower tech empires in the old world started researching the Manhatten Project. Now I gotta FIND the city, DECLARE WAR, while constructing 3 invasion armies with enough naval support and transport and wipe out their cities... A tough job in my hand.

---
Another thing. Whats wrong with my non-aggressive policy?!

I have only destroyed one nation (vikings at N. America) anyone for years, I only send gifts of military units to my ally, my government is democracy, I send them non-military technology as gifts...

BUT instead, they are all either hostile with me or At war with me. Even my ally is neutral to me.

Whats wrong?

Not very possible under anything harder than king. But under chief and warlord, you just settle everything faster than the comp and you can rake in about 400% I think.

I would also like it if the computer weren't so OVERLY hostile towards you. I also tend to try and play the "nice democracy" type of nation who don't muck about, help the poor, break up conflicts yadda yadda, etc etc. But even if I just sit on my damn island, ain't any bigger than anyone else and not overly superior in economy or science, and STILL everyone will hate me... I think it's a tad odd...

Forget it. I hate the AI... They all declare war on you, all allied against me. Here's something. They will only attack the target closest to their empire. I mean the Greek empire that controls the much of Asia are attacking my Austrialia coz its closest, the Celts in Europe are nuking Britain and Greenland every 5-10 turns, Mongolians are pretty dead after I took Australia from them and the Zulu, they are busy trying to get past my naval blockade around their western coast. I have never felt so secure in my whole life. The city of Beijing is happy with all the improvements build and supplies NO military units to the empire. O yea, I found myself occupied the city of Athen (Greek Capital) in Asia especially after they wasted all the money on building a spaceship and launched it.

Life is good.

I would never let them get by well enough to threaten me with nukes. If I was so far ahead, like in this scenario, then I would have launched an invasion with tanks, bombers (if they have no fighters), and howitzers (if I have the tech.) Cripple them, leave them with a few cities left.

Although the way you are doing it, you'll have an interesting war going on.

Wipe out every civ but one, and leave them one city. Surround their city with units, and build and farm your own cities like a mad man. Build the Spaceship, launch it on the last possible turn you can so that it can reach AC before the game ends. Put your civ in Democracy, and two turns befors your SS reaches AC, put luxery on 8 or 9. This will produce extremly high scores, but it ends up being very boring, as the last hundred turns or so are just building new cities and farming.

Quite interesting indeed. Everyone's against me, they all launched nukes at my cities (Global Warming!!!!!) and stuffs alike. I captured the city of Zimbarawe when they launched a spaceship and Captured all the cities at the Asian east coast leaving the Greeks landlocked and is currently gathering heavy troops around Britain to prepare to capture the Celtic Capital (launched a spaceship). Pretty soon, my Asian Army will reach the western Celtic border line which the Celts will move more troops into that area (I hope) leaving their capital and nearby cities open for me.

Africa is of no threat. I might even fight my way from their pre-captial to the Celtic borderline and attack Europe from the South.

Europe would soon be surrounded! huge army from the Asian East, Transport from the British-Greenland North, Spearhead from the African South, and a naval blockade from the West sending American Troops across the Ocean.

One of the keys to preventing a nuke war, consant warfare and complete all round carnage is to follow MarkusF's Supergrowth Strategy. I used that strategy and by the time I was building tanks, my opponents were just researching Gunpowder that afte one of them stole it. I dont like playing against them all on the same continent(world Map), because the AI simply does not know how to expand aggressively. For a high score, I leave only about a couple of enemy cities and have over 60-70 myself. Of these, 20-25 are above size 30 and another 10-15 between 20-25 size. I do this with the help of the ole'Airbase trick. If you dontknow what I'm talking about, just try and build an Airbase over a non-improved square and see for yourself. I know it sounds like cheating but it is nice to see cities with 115 Arrows,116 Shields and 70 Food.

Sorry if this is a bit off the subject, but it's my first posting and I had to start somewhere.

Does anyone know how your final % is worked out? Is it just having lots of cities, or does it matter how well developed your cities are? For example, does it make a difference if you build city improvements which your city doesn't really need?

there was a post somewherw somewhen i just dont remember now...

but the sad thing that i have to say is that i have never won a deity gam eby conquest...
