I thought I would open this thread to tell people about any changes in Civ3 they would like to see. Hopefully, others will have comments or suggestions to make. Maybe someone from Firaxis will see and use these suggestions in future versions.

Here is mine:

Capturable merchant ships in harbor

When a city falls, any merchant ships (caravels, galleons,

transports, etc.) in the harbor are captured not destroyed as they are

now.

Game play would be enhanced by giving beseiged cities three options:
1)Disband ships - Essentially blowing them up in the harbor
2)Allow ships to be captured - giving assets to the enemy
3)Have ships sortie - sail out against the enemy fleet.

yeah i like the idea of transporting raw materials and luxuries using merchant ships. It also annoys me that when you take over a city all aircraft are destroyed as well. I'd like to be able to keep the aircraft or destroy them and gain shield from their destruction?

Very Repetitive, I know, but I'd love to be able to SEE my trade routes, especially with another Civ!! I'd also like to have a chance to see another Civ's trade routes, so that I could blockade or pirate them!!! They did it in CtP, so why not CivIII!!! If anything, I reckon that if Firaxis did it, they'd probably do it EVEN better than Activision did :)!!!

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.

yes but i would prefer it if you could turn it on and off, like the grid, so you could use it as a reference.

@Padma: thanks for changing the thread title.

@ Mr. Dictator: How about a colored line on the small map that can be removed by a button. Like the one that removes the cities.

Here Is another idea:

Mecenaries, Guerillas, Freebooters, and Raiders

Mecenaries, Guerillas, Freebooters, and Raiders as hidden nationality units. This would allow them to make raids and disrupt resource flow without actually causing a war. They would need special unmarked ships and planes to carry out their dastardly deeds.

Some sort of stealth capability would be necessary, also. They could only be detected by opposing units in direct line of sight.
These units would need to be able to hide in enemy territory as long as they stayed out sight of enemy units.

You can do this with the invisible unit attribute. However, you would have to make every unit detect invisible. Thus, you loose the advantage for subs and planes. I think what is needed is a special unit stealth option to allow certain units to conduct covert operations.

yes that would make embargos and pirates possible over land.

Galctic Civilization

I sent this idea directly to Firaxis. It was like poring water down a black hole. Not even an echo came back. I still think it is a good idea; though.

I think that Firaxis should create an interface making it possible to combine civ3 scenario maps. This interface could take the form of a solar system map.

How it would work is this. You pick a scenario map or go to the Civ3 editor and create one. Next, you go to the solar system interface editor and link your chosen scenario to the solar system map. More than one scenario map could be linked to the solar system map.

The linked scenario map would appear in the solar system map as a planet. A space ships could then travel across the solar system map to one of several planets. On arrival in orbit, the player would be presented with a land option button. The land button would swtich to the Civ3 scenario map and allow the player to choose a landing site. After that, the game would play as it does now on planet. There would need to be buttons (maybe on the small map) to allow switching between various maps: solar system, planet1, planet2,etc.

If the player decided to return to space; the space ship should have a launch control(button) available. Furthermore, the solar system map should be a playable scenario in it's own right. Space ships should be able to engage in combat, blockades, stealth missions, troop transport, piracy, etc.

Ultimately; there should be something like a worm hole or jump point in the outer reaches of the solar system that would allow transition to other solar system maps.

Since this solar system interface would use Vanilla Civ3 and Civ4 PTW scenarios; it would be completely customizable. Anything that works with these versions would work with the interface. Customizers would have a whole galaxy of new possibilities: space ships, alien creatures, alien races, alien artifacts.

Workers need to be able to remove terrain improvements.

As it stands, improvements such as roads or railroads can not be altered by a worker. It seems ridiculous to me that I have to send a combat unit to remove a poorly located railroad spurr.
