Game Crash - Been Down This Road Before

I got BtS today and have found it be fun, except for one thing... I get the game crashing with the message that the game "encountered a problem and needs to close."

This actually isn't unusual... it happened when I got CIV Vanilla. But after downloading the latest patch, that problem was fixed.

I know there's a BtS patch out, but I should ask if anyone has downloaded the patch after having the game crash as I described, and then didn't have that problem after downloading and installing the patch. From what I've read about the patch, it doesn't seem to do much.

If not, I'll say this just to get it off my chest... a game that recommends 512 megs of RAM shouldn't crash on a computer with 1 gig of RAM while running XP.

With that off my chest, I'll ask whether or not changing graphic settings will help. I imagine it will until another patch comes out that addresses the crash issue I mentioned, but thought I'd get a second opinion before doing so, or if the problems need a patch to address it.

I have been having the same problem; for me it occurs in the mid and late game right after I finish a turn where I declared war on another civ. If I saved the game on that same turn, I would get the same crash and error message when I try to restart and reload the game.

Has anyone else noticed a similar problem?

I have an NVIDIA graphics card and updated my driver, but that didn't fix the problem.
