Game Crashes-load error while game is in play:

While playing I'm am constantly having to restart my game. While in play I get a load error message and game is aborted... getting to get me very "%@!@^#&^@^#%% off".

I get a white message box: says:

LOAD ERROR

File Not Found

"ART\ UNITS \KNIGHTS \KNIGHT DEATH.Wav"

The Game will Now Exit.


Any ideas on why this is happening. I have a downloaded version of CIV3 with a Conquests CD inserted. /i play from Conquests.

I would say that you have a problem with the pedicon text file. There is no knights folder in the units folder. It is knight, without an S. Singular, not plural. The knight folder is in vanilla, not conquest.

If that is all that is wrong, you could just change the Proto from knights to knight in the text folder. I would look first in conquest units, then vanilla. If you come up with another I would reinstall as something is corrupt.

Edit: make sure vanilla is at 1.29f and conquest is at 1.22f

"pedicon text file". sorry, you lost lost already. I'm a dead loss at computer stuff. I made a mistake, it did say KNIGHTand not KNIGHTS as i posted. I did accidently delete my CIVIII game, and then got it back. maybe i need to put the 1.29f back on?- or does this come with Conquests.

I have decided to re-install the whole thing again. I found a video from 'PUPPETEER' on changing the file location. Put it in c:Users\Public\Games\CivIII - seems easy enough. I think I will also just buy a CD.

I will try to save this map as it is the best I've found so far [need to learn to make maps]

Patches are on some CD's and not on others. The best way to find out is to install and start up the game. It will tell you the patch level in the corner. Down loaded versions should all be patched to the last fix level.

Conquest itself does not have vanilla civ III and requires you to already own it. It comes with PTW. Versions like Complete will come with all three versions (C3, PTW and C3C).

The pediacons is in the Text folder, which you will have one such folder in vanilla and in conquest. The C3C (conquest) is at the higher level and is searched first.
