Game crashes

I saw someone else having this problem too - the game crashes at a very advanced stage (my case it started around 1990 AD) when you press the button for next turn. If you go "strategic view" and then press the turn button, it does not crash.

Will someone tell me if this is a persistent problem and if it has any permanent solution yet ? Thanks in advance.

My game is updated through steam as of today (1st Jan, 2011). Oh and by the way, happy new year to anyone who sees this post.

Yes and no :(.
The problem is known, it should have got less with the last patch, but there's no real fix for it yet.

Happy new year :).

It has gotten considerably worse, to the point that it crashes every other turn and can take a half dozen restarts to get it (if it ever does).

Switching to Strategic view, eh? Haven't tried that, but will do so right now for my game. Am in the Modern/Future era now and have been having no end of headaches.

EDIT: It works! I know you might not have come up with the solution, but Sanjay, I thank you greatly for mentioning it. I have been stuck on a turn that simply won't get through the computer's movements and it did so without problem when I switched to strategic view.

Another thing to try is windowed mode (uncheck the "full screen" in game options). This works for me and saves me the hassle of switching to strategic mode every turn. The only thing is that the mouse won't scroll sideways on map, have to use mini-map.

I get this crash as well, very anoying, havent been able to finish a game yet because of it.

Thought the last patch fixed it, but it only delayed it, havent tried any of the mentioned workarounds yet.

What kind of video card do you guys have? I have an nvidia 8800gt and my game crashed all the time with the latest nvidia drivers. I had use nvidia drivers from august 2010 and all my crashes went away.

Radeon 4870 x 2, 1 GB.

I don't think this problem has anything to do with the graphic card. Just wait for next patch, hopefully they will fix it.

For what it's worth - so do I. I've played with all of the settings to no avail. I guess I'll sit and wait for the patch. Kinda sucks though - first I had to wait until I got back to the States, then until Christmas leave and now that I finally have time to play it - no dice.

Ahh well - there's always summer. :crazyeye:

I had no crashes until AFTER the december patch.

Now however the "please wait" is noticeably longer as I trundle thru the early 20th century and the thing falls over around 1950 wothout fail now.

My problem is I play a standard Earthmap I created to get around the memory/processor problem - no city states for example - this has NEVER had a save option in the menu - even though did the manual update you have to do in Config.ini.

How amateur is a game that you have to manually alter configuration files as an enduser to tell it just to SAVE a game? Especially if that STILL doesn't work!!!!

One very unhappy civfanatic here for sure. I've played since Civ I, and Civ IV BtS was a masterpiece. I actually look at what else is out there these days......:-(

Did you try to clear the cache?
(means deleting everything in Documents\My Games\Civ5\Cache)

While the Mouse does not scroll in windowed mode, you can still left click at the edges and it will "scroll" about two inches.
