I loaded Civ 4 onto my computer without a problem.
I start it, and go to the tutorial. A few turns in, i get a sound loop and crash.
So i patch up, and try again. Get the same kind of crash.
So i reinstall the game, and it still crashes.

My video card is a GeForce 6800, and i have windows XP, so i know the problem it isnt related to those factors.

can anyone help me? I can provide more info if needed. thanks.

Edit: i patched to 1.52. is there any later ones?
Edit edit: incliduded dx diag

This means it probably a sound problem. Your SB Live driver is ancient (3 and a half years old). If there are no newer drivers available, go back to the dxdiag screen, click the sound tab and move the hardware acceleration slider all the way to the left. This will use emulated sound and may solve your problem.

Well, I can play without getting a sound loop and crashing, but now my screen goes all wierd (a bunch of rectangles overmask the game and my computer restarts itself) after a few turns.

I was fianly able to get a screen shot of my problem.

(sorry about the triple post)

Looks like your videocard is overheating now. Make sure your fans are all running and vents aren't clogged with dust.
