C2C gives error at launch, but normal Civ4 doesn't work either.

So I haven't played Civ4/C2C for month, or two, and I haven't really changed anything on my system other than some Windows updates. Now when I try to launch Civ4/C2C, the loading popup comes up normally, but when the screen goes black, as if civ4 is about to start, my screen gives me 'no signal' then turns off for a sec, and then crashes to Windows with the error message: Using the MemorySaver option your configuration does not allow device loss. Exiting program.

Does anybody know why this is happening?

EDIT: Well I got Civ4/C2C to run when I enable the "disable full screen optimizations" option, but now I can't use 3840x2160 resolution, or if I try to change it the game crashes immediately. Plus I think this force HDR ON in Civ4.....I mean the colors almost smacked me to my face.

I had this years ago, if I remember correctly (bear in mind it really was years ago) I had to go into a settings file or similar and deactivate the memory save option. Don’t remember what file exactly, but I guess some sesrching online would tell you

Yes but I don't understand why this started now because I haven't done any changes to my system. I have barely updated even my GPU drivers since newer usually don't benefit me because I play older games.

I actually got C2C run as it should but how I did it was weird. So I set memsave option to 0 from civiliztionIV.ini in the mydocuments/beyondthesword yada yada folder, because the game mention the memsaver, but that did nothing and the game just kept "crashing".
But then I tried the OG civ4.exe, which I have so far have not used so it had not "generated" a ini file. The OG civ4 started/launched just as it should, I got in to the main menu and set the resolution to 3840x2160 from options(default res was 2560x1440). Then I quit. I then checked both of of the ini files, and their "formating" was completely different. So what I then did was that I copied the ini from OG civ4 folder to the beyond the sword folder, over wrote the ini file in that folder, and boom C2C launched as it should.

No why did changing memsave option to 0 in OG civ4 ini work, and not when I changed it in the beyond the sword ini.....well I don't know. I am just glad it works. Now the only problem is does this memsave thing affect C2C playability, I mean how many turns can I play without a crash.

I did worry about it having a negative impact for me, but as far as I’m aware it hasn’t had any negative impact (and I play c2c for at least 10h a week and has done for years, since v13 I think).

The only difference I think is that I can now alt+tab and the game doesn’t freeze on purpose during ai turns.
