Greetings All. I just discovered today that the Boy Scout's now have a Game Design merit badge, as one of my students in my game design class would like me to be his merit badge counselor. I will need to get the book on it and see if it would also apply to computer games or to the development of computer game scenarios. Suddenly, with my son just moving out to California, after graduating college, for his new job, I am back in the Merit Badge Counselor mode.

I keep reading over and over yet I can't understand.

Is this a question, a tip, a job offer, a statement?

This is not a flame.

Really.

Basically, it is a statement that the Boy Scouts now have a Game Design Merit Badge, and I happen to teach classes in how to design board, miniature, and role-playing games. I am presently teaching such a class, and one of my students wants me to be his Merit Badge Counselor. I did Merit Badge counseling for my son's Boy Scout troop a few years back, and when he went off to college, I sort of dropped out. Now, it looks like I will be back doing it, for an entirely new area.

Did you find out whether game design includes computer games?

From looking at the information posted on the Boy Scout website about the badge, it does appear to include computer games, as the badge does include discussions covering Scratch. I am still waiting for the merit badge book to determine if it would also include modifying or editing an existing game.
