Game does not display top-bar stats - all 'default' [turn 1, 2100AD 000,000 gold etc]

Wow, it's been a long time...

Essentially, I went to play Civ after a long break - auto-downloaded new patch [steam] and on starting a new game, I got this:

Is this a thing? Or am I staggeringly unique to have this happening?

Oh o_O.

Please verify the integrity of the game's files within Steam. Because it seems there are some files broken (...well...definitely), and verifying the files should redownload everything which was broken.
