Hi there,

My problem is that my game crahses in every single game that I start.

The annoying thing is that it won't even give me an error message. All it does is to shut down and I end up at my desktop.

As I said : this happens in every single game but not at a certain point, i.e. when i reach a certain epoch or get a new unit.
But once it crashes it will do so everytime i try to reload - even after a complete reinstallation of the game or my whole system.

The version that I am runningis 1.29f.
Happens with "regular" games as well as with scenarios.

Since it is hard to give any further information without an error message I'd like to know if any of you have had a similar problem
and how you've solved it (if at all).

Here are my specs:

Windows XP (plus SP1)
Athlon 1600 XP
256 MB Ram
MSI MAinboard A7V 266 Pro 2
Soundblaster Live! Player 5.1

All with the latest drivers installed.
HD's all freshly defragmented.

Any help is appreciated!

Thx in advance,
Golem

I had the same problem when I started playing Civ3. I would be thrown out with no message.

I'm running W2k, with GForceTNT2.

I resolved the problem by changing my videocard drivers. I actually installed older drivers for the card! Never had the problem since!

I have the same problem
Windows 2000 pro
Athlon 1300
geForce 3 Ti200 64mb DDR ram onboard
Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
512 Megs DDR Ram
Runs FAst!
Crash!

Someone said Old video drivers?

HELP! HAve a great game going on that crashes at 290 BC
Scenario:
290 BC after returning to 310 from the previous 270 BC crash. Great sceneario if you can get it running.
You are the Americans and at war with Babylon. The Chinese and Iroqouis are your closest border Rivals and have declared war on the evil Babylonians because of the Mutual Protection Pact you had with them. Here is the chance to gain 5 or 6 Babylon citys on your border and send them packing back to their own territory. The position of the Chinese really helps you to achieve this as they cut off Babylon and gives you one less border dispute to deal with.
We are just at our Golden Age as an F-15 is just about to Intercept its first Bomber. We have just expanded to a new territory where our expansion there will help us to gain a new hold in the World Power Structure. We have caught up to our rivals in Military Strength. Our economy is strong and producing enough to buy upgrades every turn.
Try it ...bet you like it!lol

well i might be able to help if you can send me DXDiag.exe click start then run then type that in and click save all infomation and send it to me and i might be able to help

A crash without an error message is an unhandled error. It is therefore most likely caused by something like hardware incompatability. The new drivers suggestion sounds like a pretty good one to me. :)

I've installed and updated all of the drivers to every hardware known to me, including all of the windows updates, service packs etc.

Still the same problem.
I suddenly find myself looking at my desktop....

This NEVER happened before 1.29f, though.
I seriusly don't know what to do anymore.

@ lincon: I've send you the "DXDiag" that you've asked for.
..you are my last hope!!

Cheers in advance!

No, i haven't.
I even tried to completely reinstall my system
with nothing but windows and civ on my hard disk - still the same.

That's why I don't have anymore idea and why i'm asking for help.

Just to add: Civ runs fine for at least 100-200 turns until the error occurs.
But it is not a specific era, date or unit that has to show up
(at least none that I know of).

I had several of these "civiii.exe caused an invalid operation..."
crashes before which I succesfully managed to avoid by updating my drivers etc.

But with this one... I don't have any clue.

Ahh! If it runs for "most" of the game, then it probably ISN'T a hardware incompatability issue.

Do you get the error if you start a new game?

As a check, reload the autosave from the turn prior to the crash, and see if replaying the turn causes the crash in the same place. If so, post what the game is doing when the crash happens (eg is it processing your cities through the start of a turn; is it the AI's turn etc). You could even post your .sav game for us to try.

As a random thought, try reloading the save, and changing the tac rate - upping the luxuries substantially. Or even try hitting the change government button.

:)

Hi,

Just to let you know:

Despite all my doubts I decided to purchase PTW today.
I deleted and reinstalled everything and...
Whohooo !! all the saved games that used to crash (see above)
work perfectly now!

I can't tell you how relieved I am now.
Of course this doesn't necessarily mean that the error will not
occur ever again.
But for now I am happy :)

Thanks again for the support from all of you!
