Game Locks Up

I have installed and patched Civ III. Yet everytime I start a game as soon as I make a move or try to start a city it locks up. Also is there a way to alter the resolution that the game runs in? I have a Pentium D 3.73ee and a Nvidia 8500GT.

I don't know about the lockup problem.

Thanks for the info. I still dont know whats going on. I can get a game started but as soon as I move a person or create a city it locks tight.
