Ok, I agree it's a bit too early, but I was surprised that this subject wasn't threated yet (according to the list in the sticked thread). SO I decided to open a thread.
Refering to game modes, the game is rather poor now. Besides the normal 'epic' game. I would like to be able to play in other styles:
Epic/Classical:
The normal epic game.
Conquests:
This is the concept we already have. They are scenarios on one history subject, not as long a epic game, but more accurate. Here are scenarios like the actual middle-age, mesoamerican and mesopotamian wishable, because they have a great replay potential.
Age-game (working title):
As an epic game on a random (or not) map, but you can chose in which age you want to start. If you want to start in the modern age, you can start there. But we have to solve the problem here, that you don't just build your empire up, so perhaps you'll have to start with a few cities etc. but this is a balancing thing.
War-game:
You start already with a little kingdom in the ancient age (or later on? time could be chosen by a scale) but no techs researched. So you don't have to build up your empire and could go straight conquering. Of course the AI would also start with an empire.
...:
....
Ok, some have to be rethought, some have to be possible (I don't know to which extent it is possible to programm the above things) and some are just stupid. But it would add diversity. And you can still play a normal game...
What do you think? Is this even needed? Do you have other ideas for game/play modes?
