Game needs a while to realize I've won

I was playing a quick game in a "Duel" size world on "Settler" difficulty today to try out various things, and I ended up winning with a domination victory. However, have a look at the screenshot. Am I perhaps just missing something, or shouldn't Marc (that's me by the way) have won the game already at the time when I was looking at that victory conditions screen? I mean, mathematically speaking, 80.23% is greater than 44% and 74.07% is greater than 74% (by a very small margin, but still it's greater). However, it still took until the end of the next turn for the game to realize that I had won a domination victory. It's not a major issue, just a little weird. Or perhaps I am misinterpreting something after all.

Did you look at this screen again at the begining of your next turn? My guess is that you ended your turn as is. If you went first as player 1, the computer then got his turn, gaining enough population and land mass to put you below the bar for winning. Then you both went again, but after this turn, the computer player couldn't get enough pop or land to prevent you from winning.

So what you're saying is that the victory conditions are checked at the end of each round, not at the end of each player's turn, so that the AI's turn could still affect the victory conditions? I guess that would make sense. I sort of figured that a player would win as soon as they fulfil the conditions, but I guess it's fair to wait and give the AI a chance to possibly nuke me back to the stone age in its next turn. :D Anyway, thanks for the explanation.

However, this reminds me that I've never really had the impression that the AI keeps track of the victory conditions, because I've never seen AIs frantically try to steal my cities when I got close to a domination victory, and I've never seen any major attacks during the final stages of a space race, as one may expect. Perhaps I need to finally try the highest difficulty settings. ;)
