I love Civ, but one of the things that I feel had room for improvement is the pacing, specifically the lifetime of units.
I feel that the length of time that a given unit, before being upgraded, is too short. I don't have enough time to get attached to any unit or feel excited by them. My last game was ridiculous - by the time that I'd built aircraft carriers and kitted them out with jet bombers ready to attack Macedonia, I had researched GDRs, rendering them basically obsolete. Obviously an extreme example, but still.
The obvious solution would be to stretch out the techs while maintaining production, so units last longer. However that would stretch a long game to be even longer, tilt the game further away from Science Victory (and probably some others), and people are asking for more units to be added.
I was wondering what your thoughts were? What would your solutions be?
