Would one of you kind peeps please tell me how to take game screenshots? I know, I'm a wurzel...

press F12 in game

Just be careful, though, 'cause I think F12 may sometimes be set to load quicksaves.

if you are on PC there is typically a button that says "print screen"

that is a screen shot capture button.

If you are on MAC you'll have to hit command + shift + 3 or command + shift + 4 if you want to then "select" the part of the screen you'd like to capture.

but have hit a snag with a program to actually "show" it, or "use it" if you will

its too bad, I play a lot of civ, and my goodness I got the best start ive seen in my civ life.

my city, in the 6 tiles surrounding it, 5 of those tiles were wine(Im England in this game, no legendary start, start bias in place) then I was able to purchase a tile from a nearby city state, giving my THREE cotton on top of the 5 wine, which is actually SIX because one of them has 2 branching out directly from the city

that's 6 wine, 3 cotton, on a river. I then move north and find a city next to a mtn, on a desert(petra) with 3 salt(4 more if you were to use a GG or 2) and TWO marble. then I find my third base, and I see 4 copper, 1 marble, 1 incense, next to a mtn, on a desert hill.

by far the most ridiculous 3 base start ive ever seen. to have 5 wine of the 6 spaces surrounding my city, (6 total in the 12 surrounding tiles)....Its almost too hard to believe.

I find it easy enough to hit PrintScreen, navigate to my Civ V Screenshots folder, open the saved image in Irfanview (free download). I can then crop or do other edits to the screenshot (circle items of interest, etc.) and then Save As a jpg or prn file. Easy to upload to the forums or dump to Dropbox or similar service and then insert a link on the forum post.

Taking the screen shot is not a problem; using it can be. They've overriden the windows default behavior from the usual (on the clipboard) as bmp in which just opening up paint (or word or excell or outlook) and then hitting the paste button would cause it to appear. (Highly recommended to save-as jpg because bmp use a lot of extra space).

They've instead using a format that (so far at least) is only free with Irfanview on both the clipboard (so you would have to download it and then save as jpg to get to a format everyone else uses.) The game is including automatically saving it to disk so if you want multiple screen shots you can take them all at once and then fetch them all later.

Another possibility, but only to those that actually have MS office installed on the machine is that MS office has its own built in screen shot programs in both word & excel. (That one is an improvement over the normal screen shot because it's a shot of just one window; and in addition there is a clip function as well.) However, while I know that program works very well with both Chrome windows & IE windows, I've never tried Civ V from it as I don't own MS office and have only used it on work machines.

Thanks for a lot of good info that I wish I had known last night. As it was, I reloaded/restarted my current game and then hit F12 - it started a new game as England!
Anyway I started playing it, soon thought "hell, this seems easy" and then found I was on Warlord setting. Also no spies appeared in Renaissance.
I'd forgotten how it feels to be top dog before Industrial - great fun beating up Attila, but a bit of a sham now I'm getting used to playing on King! Anyway I think I'll try the conventional screen print next...

Sufficiency's guide in my sig. Feel free to ask more questions if something isn't clear enough.

Thanks a lot, that looks a good guide. Just one thing I'm not clear on: I usually play offline (it's quicker) - will the steam method still work?

afaik, for upload ss you need internet connection, but not sure.
