Game speed / MP question

Alright, I have a problem regarding the game speed in multiplayer. I'm having a few issues, and I was hoping maybe there was a mod or something to fix it.

My friend and I like to play CiV together against the AI. The problem is that any of the speeds above Quick take a pretty long time to complete. The other problem though is that the Quick speed provides other problems. In Quick (especially on a large map with lots of civs), you can end up sending for example warriors and archers down to attack a Civ, but by the time you get there, they already have swordsman. The movement of your troops doesn't change compared to how fast research / building is.

On standard speed, it does seem a bit better because your troops remain viable for more time due to research being slower, but the games just take too long for 2 people to finish. In singleplayer, I don't mind the other speeds because I can play whenever I feel like it.

I guess what I'm looking for is a way to make games faster without the whole (sort of exaggeration) "You've trained a warrior" < 5 turns later > "Warrior is now completely obsolete".

If units could move farther each turn on Quick, I think it would be a lot better. Is there any kind of mod, or a fix for this? If not, I guess we'll just have to play SP.
