Okay this is really weird, I have been playing Civ 4 for Months with no problem. I upgraded to the new patch tonight (1.61), and now every time I start a new game it starts with 10 turns to go until the end of the game. And if I try to load a previouis save game, the game crashes. Please help me. I miss Civ.

Play without a NOCD/NODVD crack. I had this same issues and when I dug out my CD from the nether depths of my closet, and played with the non-cracked 1.61 executable the '10 turn' thing went away.

Smells like code that cripples the game if whatever evil copy protection the game has isn't present/running.

Irritating as all get out, either way. I absolutely hate having to play with a CD in the drive. I also really hate rootkit-like draconian copy protection.

Does this mean that if you play with the proper CD in the drive for the first 10 turns, you could then use the no-cd crack thereafter.

Sounds like a good idea. As i play at home on my PC, and on my laptop, i CBF'd swapping the CD out all the time. I wish more dev's where like Epic. they actually release no-cd cracks for there games.

Software licensing seems to confuse you.

Given his save games just crash, I strongly suspect the answer is no.

Don't use cracks, or pirated copies of the game, and you won't get this problem.

There has been numerous threads on this. A 10 turn limit simply means it's a cracked copy. Buy the game or use the CD. The CD is only used when you launch the game anyway. I think you can simply eject it once you have started up.

My DVD just spins up the once, when I start a game (so yes, I believe it is just needed for initial validation purposes) - noisy and irritating but mercifully it's just the once per session so not too bad. I'm soooo glad Civ is one of those games where everything needed is on the hard disk as I detest that sort of mechanical noise.

Luckily I have 2 DVD drives so I keep my Civ DVD in one permanently (as I play almost every day), great because it saves having to handle the disk every time and reduces the risk of dropping/scratching it. :D
