Game won't open

I just tried to open my Civ4 game which I bought years ago and have played on my current pc about a year and a half ago. I tried to open it and for the first time ever, the user account window came up asking if I wanted to "allow the app with an unknown publisher to make changes to the device." Then the game won't open. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it does the same thing. I imagine this may be due from my recent update to windows 10 but I still don't understand why the game won't open. Please help!

I assume that you are using a disc based CIV game. Windows 10 does not allow access to discs using the protection method used by CIV and a lot of other older games. If you look through the similarly titled threads here in the Tech Support forum, you may find a work around. Most of the Windows 10 users have switched to an online based version of CIV to avid the problem. As for me, I have stuck to WIndows 7 for which there is a work around in the threads here, since MS decided to block the disc access there as well. The difference is that in WIndows 7 the disc access code is blocked, so can be fairly easily worked around, while in WIndows 10 the access code is absent. Another approach is if you have CIV BTS installed, patch it to version 3.19, which does not need disc access.
