I run Civ4 and it gets to checking xml before it crashes. However it refuses to give me an error message. Here's the log:

[1706.609] DBG: FILE Cat Init
[1706.812] DBG: NOT Using XML cache, failed to find crc.dat file
[1706.812] DBG: Game Init
[1706.812] DBG: Multiplayer Init

I did try patching it, but I got some crazy error message when I tried to patch  Help?

What patch gave you the error?

Do you have 2 cds or one dvd for civ iv?

Where did you get the patch?

So you start the game and the lil box appears center screen the mouse turns into a spinning circle, the game starts loading stuff then poof back to the desktop you go?

A few things can cause that.

sound driver

.net not up to date.

xml parser not undated by OS

stuff like that.

Post a dx diag maybee we can narrow that down.

Updated sound drivers, still have exact same error problem. I still get the same error log that I posted at the begginning. I'm not updating to SP2, it caused too many problems on my other computers.

Does not matter right now.

You still have the other problems to deal with.

Clean up your machine first then if doesnt work trouble shoot from there.

There are a number of issues stopping you from playing not just one.

your dxdiag sound drivers are fubar.

BTW shut off all non ms services and startup items before you run civ iv also.

384 plus in your page file is too much.

Start/run

Type in:

msconfig

Under the startup tab disable all.
Under services tab check the box marked hide all ms services. make sure you check that box first or bad things could happen. After you have verified that the ms services are hidden disable all the rest, apply, and reboot.

Okay I did the msconfig thing. I ran it and again same error log and it didn't get any further. What does "384 plus in your page files is too much" mean and how do I fix it.

BTW I really appreciate you taking the time to help me get Civ4 running.

well thats a tought one then.

I suppose you could try and load the required pieces of MS Xp

Maybe that would work.

First would be .net

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en

You will have to go to windows update to that and the following.

Then I guess update the XML parser with MSXML3msms.exe program.

Good luck

Hi, I am a new member - - just migrating / trying to migrate from Age of Empires 2 - Gold edition.

GRAPHICS CARD - - -
NVIDIA GFRCE FX5700LE

DVD ROM / WRITER - - -
SAMSUNG SV4002H
ST380011A

the issue - -

Installation seamless - -
game doesn't run - gets stuck at the starting videos - - main menu doesn't appear
initial blue screen appears with music
then sun / world / morning / night / thingy with lovely music happens - that continues to happen - have to stop it from task manager

man this sucks!!!

any ideas

comment - - why can't these dudes make these things flawless?

zeggron

.NET & XP SP2 are a good idea, both are needed for stability in many things in Civ

then

Load Patch 1.52 via

http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/downloads.htm

Before Patching
Windows add/remove in control panel remove Civ - success or failed do the following

Delete the Civ IV Directories in:

- Programs/Firaxis
- My Documents / My Games
- C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\My Games\Civilization IV\ Its a hidden directory if not seen just check you have "show hidden files" switched on

Load from discs
Load Patch V1.52

If still issues - post again with your Dxdiag file

(Dxdiag - Start Button - click - choose run - type dxdiag - hit enter - wait a min - select save all information - post using 'advanced' button below)

Regards
