game wont work

I installed civ 4 with no problems, i can set up the game with no problem but when i go to start the game it says auto saving at the top of screen then a window pops up and says civ 4 has stopped working and windows will now close the program

im running windows vista with 2 gig ram and 160 gig hardrive with a core 2 duo intel centrino processor,

can anyone please help me, i played civ 2 and really enjoyed it and would love to play this one

im not that computer savy so what do you mean by patch

you installed the game from the disc and did not do anything else, correct?

On Vista you often need to run the installer (setup.exe) and all patches as administrator - i.e. right click on them and choose run as administrator. For now try this: download the above patches - then right click on the 1.61 patch file and choose run as administrator - then do the same for 1.74 - then update DirectX by following the third link.

i tried to install the patches and i got this message for both of them "The setup has detected that no version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is installed. This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed. I have the game installed on my pc after i got the message i went to add/remove programs and it was there and even tried to run the game again but it crashes at the same spot still

I was able to download the thrid link however with no problems

its Civ 4 complete edition, its got all the expansions with it

Is this the version with or without Colonization?

oh im sry bout that i didnt know it made a difference, and to answer your question yes it includes Colonization

ffs it still crashing at the same spot, maybe my graphics card isnt good enough, how do i find out what kind of graphics card i have?

run dxdiag - save the results file and post it here as a file attachment - you can attach files to a post by clicking on go advanced and then on manage attachments below the reply box

for dxdiag:
click on the windows symbol on your desktop
click on search
type dxdiag
hit enter
in the program that starts
click on save results
post that file here

Vista is not uptodate (there is no service pack installed)
also your graphics driver is rather old
