The contest has begun today, with Mario 3 unsuprisingly beating Metal Gear. I'll be leaving on vacation for a week, so I'll miss the first round of the 8-bit division, but those matches I don't think will be all that heated. The Halo vs. Starcraft match is the one I'm looking forward to.

I'm thinking it will. But I'm counting on an FF3 vs. FF7 showdown in the final (with FF7 winning), the way the brackets are set up. FF3 and FF7 aren't the most poupular boards currently, but it has quite a reputation, and that counts for a lot over at GameFAQs.

Just for your information: currently the most popular message board is (I think) the Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life board.

EDIT: And I most definitely believe that Starcraft will beat Halo.

Upon returning, it seems my bracket has already been busted as I put Phantasy Star over Contra. Ha. I was going purely by seeds in that match.

I really think super mario or super mario 3 should win it all. All the other games are very derivitive in some aspect or another, but the little plumber that could truly defined video games I think more then any character or game ever.
