I'm kind of new to Civ 4. Used to play Civ 2 back in the 1990's...so I downloaded their base Civ 4. Other than the fact that I had to disengage and reengage security to get the downloader to work, I had no problem.

I'm on a Vista 32 bit Compaq laptop with Service Pack 2...

Friday night, I tried to download Beyond The Sword from Gamestop. Download was fine, the install was fine...but when I run BTS as an administrator, I get a message saying an online connection was required. The only problem is that I am, of course, connected to the Internet.

Clicking anything gets me to an "Unknown Internal Error." Yesterday, I uninstalled both the base Civ 4 and BTS. A re-install of Civ 4 worked fine, but re-installing BTS just gets me back to the same problems. This is true with either the 1.61 version of Civ 4 or the 1.74 patch. Civ 4 works fine, But getting BTS to work is a no go.

Think something internally might not be correct...the million dollar question is...what?

All help welcomed.

Welcome to CFC :band:

is there any antivir/firewall program that might keep it from calling home?

I run Advanced System Care and IObit....the Civ 4 (which, if I understand correctly, you all refer to as Vanilla) and BTS are firewalled through. I've done everything requested by the troubleshooting guides Trymedia has, tinkered around with Internet Explorer settings.

Thinking it's an old security setup, I used to have AVG. Or maybe I need to restart Vista once BTS in re-installed, which I'm doing now. The Gamestop people are little to no help, but the problem could be a unique one to them.

I'll keep hammering away at it...
