Getting rid of the ugly rubble in PTW?

Is there a way to get rid of that ugly rubble left after a city is destroyed in Play the World? There was no rubble in the original Civ3. I know the rubble doesn't actually do anything -- the ground is still as productive as normal, you can rebuild on top of it, and all that -- but it just looks ugly and mars the cleanness of the rest of my land. Besides using a scenario or something that remaps all of the graphics, is there a way to get rid of it?

The rubble disappears as soon as a worker improves the spot. Mines, irrigation or foresting. Roads dont' affect it, cuz the ruins leave roads/rr.

Yes as Turner said, build a colony, airfield, another city or even an improvement like already mentioned. Most of the time I just pack in another city, no matter how tight it is or how many tiles it takes away from another city(except for the capital) :)

Do you think you could just remove the pcx image for rubble, or would the game crash looking for the image?

What you could do is take the pcx image for rubble and "pink out" the rubble. The game would still find the file but the image would merely show as transparency in-game, and thus you would see nothing except the terrain.

Hey! That's a great idea. I just thought of that. I'm going to do that. I hate that rubble garbage. :p

Yeah, I would do what CK said. . . if it's that annoying pink it out, and you won't have to see it anymore.

I try to get rid of rubble asap, but it is kinda interesting to see where cities were, and laugh at AI city placement.

Yeah, I like the rubble. In my current game, the Zulus and I (Carthegenians) are allied against Rome, fighting in an area where there are about 8 or 9 rubble piles representing former Roman, Zulu, German, and Egyptian cities. It's kind of nice to reflect on old battles as I plan the next one.

It can help when you want to establish new cities. In an all out slaughter against the Greeks (whole world against the Greeks), with total alliances (MPPs = disaster), the English razed three to five cities. I didn't have PtW, so I had no clue where the cities were. I had to guess. Hopefully now I will take Athens, Sparta, Argos, and another city by culture force.
