I just installed rising tides and can't seem to find an answer for this. What exactly are we supposed to do with these giant _______.
I have a mission to clean a giant fungi but I have no clue how to accomplish this.
The civilopedia is useless and I can't find anything on google, I would really appreciate if someone explained this to me! thanks!

When you move a unit onto one of the one-tile marvels, there should be a new button on the action list at the right corner, looks like a star or something like that.

It ends the unit's turn, and gives you one "investigation of city" or "biopsy of alien", for whichever marvel the quest is about. You can only do it once per instance of the marvel, and the AI will not take it from you (though, I've frequently had aliens camping on the tiles preventing my explorer from, well, exploring them).

I once had a marvel structure(?) on a single hex island. I spent 10 turns trying to get it with my patrol boat before I gave up, wondering why the AI had parked a sub on that hex for so long. 100 turns later I had an explorer in the area and decided to try it again. I felt really dumb after that.

Also a note, for the Fungi mini-marvels, when you investigate them, the surrounding 6 hexes get set to have 4 food as the base yield; farms and biowells can then increase the food supply even further. Weirdly the central fungus tile still remains its crappy self, and you can't permanently remove it or build a city on it.

If you build a city on one of the 4-food tiles, it retains the 4 food in the city plot, so that's probably the best location to build a new city, assuming otherwise favourable distribution of resources nearby etc.

Thanks for the responses- when I posted this I didn't realize there were two different sizes, giant and colossal. the giant ones can be explored, but what about the colossal ones?

Nothing, they're just there to be discovered by a player and then start the quest for everyone.

I think all marvel tiles should have nice yields such as these fungi. The abandoned cities in arid biome look so cool, but there is no particular reason to settle near them...

Also, the big main marvel should have some crazy yields, enough to settle near them even if there is nothing else around.

Offtopic: the AI is really fond of settling water, huh? I'm playing on "arid low-sea pangea ringil khantoris" and only me and [surprinsingly] Duncan of NSA are heading inland. Everyone else is moving away into [or further into] the water. Maybe it is because floating cities cost less health?

the abandoned cities on arid planet, I wish we can settle into them. There's no perfectly good reason to avoid settling in them other than to avoid angering dead spirits. Perhaps firaxis felt that would be too audacious.

The huge food yield from the fungi makes fungal my favorite biome now.
