Giga Maps

First of all, what is a giga map, and what version of the game do you have to have to create them?
What are their dimensions, both in terms of squares, and also in terms of how big is it compared to a conventional map?

A Giga Map is any map larger than the largest map you can create with the Map editor (an area of 10,000 is the max for the map editor). You can only use giga maps with MGE and ToT. There really two ways to create such maps. A) get a copy of JB's no limits patch and create a random map game to the dimensions you want and save the game. The go into map editor and open the .sav file and edit from there.
B) Use one of the utilities in downloads which turns a bitmap image into a Civ2 map, and draw the map you want with MS Paint or Paint Shop Pro.
Both of these tend to take a while to do, so be very sure you want to put in hours creating a single map before you start.
