I have a secure geography (friendly with Gandhi on one continent, who has vassaled Ragnar - the only other civ on my main continent) along with the beginnings on a small 5-6 city island 1 tile away from my main territory.

I'm wondering what to do now. Should I worker-spam and research? I do have 'Mids.

Oh, and I have Ragnar's capital. He capitulated to Gandhi the turn after I took it. I think Gandhi and my friendship is strong. That coupled with the fact that he is not a backstabber means I'm pretty close to as safe as I can get on my home continent.

I looked at the save. I'll break down some mistakes I found for the benefit of everyone on here. All of them are little mistakes that make a big difference. I'm not even going into early tech order, micro etc etc.

This position is desperate. You're hopelessly behind in tech.

You built 17 Archers. Why? They are useless in attack and it seems like you didn't even use them to attack since you didn't lose a single one. If you had 15 units fewer for the last 200 turns that's 3000 gold saved in unit maintenance. That's equivalent to a solid 20-30 turns on 100% research over that time span which gets you Philo, Paper, and a big chunk of Education by now. Just not building those Archers.

You have Construction yet you didn't build a single Catapult. You have to use collateral damage to soften up the defenders. The war with Ragnar would be quick and efficient with those. Without siege, wars bog down and casualties become enormous causing a lot of war weariness and the number of total units you need is bigger as well.

You're running Rep and yet most of your cities aren't at happy cap and the ones that are close to it aren't running Specialists. On top of popping lots of Great Scientists to help you bulb Liberalism the Scientists in Rep give 6 beakers which is really good. Most of your cities are really tiny for this late in the game.

Trade Gandhi your Crabs for 11 gold per turn. You don't have healthiness problems and trading resources for gold could have given another boost to your economy.

I would quit this game. One of the AI across the sea is 2 turns off steel. 13-15+ techs ahead of you.

The way you play this game is flawed. Hence why you are not winning most of the games you post here. Stop trying to be clever and follow the advice you have been given over your last 15+ threads. That is a lot of threads with very little improvement.

What are you actually trying to acheive here by these weekly threads? Maybe you should drop down a level till you understand some of the basics? Don't you want to win a game before 1970ad?

You really need to make an effort to interact with this local community on this forum.

The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result.

You've been around here long enough that I know you had to have read that the first turns on the most important. Yet you keep making threads and showing us your games long after these most important turns are done. Take a look at a couple of the other shadow games going on at the moment, and play a game THAT way. Post your turn 0 save. Get advice, then play till your worker is built. Get more advice. If you like playing too much-then have your forum game that you will play disciplined and in shot turnsets, and then play another game we won't see however you want to, and as quickly as you want to.

You seem to understand that you need to expand, which is good. But you don't seem to understand HOW to expand properly. There's no earthly reason you should only be gaining 4 commerce per turn with your slider at 0% at 1000 AD! That's crazy!

I've won several games on Emperor - I just won one as Shaka, in fact (attached). I'm just trying to win on A) larger maps than standard, and B) through means other than conqeust.
