Ok -- I admit -- I play some girly games, especially horse games. I've found some quality horse games developed by Lexis Numerique. There's also some bad ones too, such as one that I had to edit savegame my way through because it was so buggy and horribly made.

Anyone else play?

More like 98%.

Anyways, you kind of already made a thread on this (non-violent games), which whiel a somewhat different topic, could be used again for this.

But no. I consider games based off TV, movies, kid's shows, 'girly' themes, most toys, to be a complete and utter waste of human, natural and artificial resoruces until proven otherwise.

I thought I remembered her talking about horse games before. The Sims is as girly of a game I have played. but that is pretty girly.

HEY.

The Sims and WoW aren't girly games.

How many of those WoW players are actually girls and not just guys with girl characters?

I'm not referring to the character being a girl. Jeez, if we go by that factor alone, then there is probably actually a majority of girls, I mean, if they're going to stare at a character's butt all day long, it might as well be a female one.

I personally know a significant amount of girls who play WoW. Most of them actually have more male characters.

The Sims must have a much higher percentage than 20-30% of female players I would think.

10% does NOT make it a girly game. There are quite a few females who play MMORPGS, more so than FPS games. Everquest II has an estimated ~40% female population.

Was just tossing a conservative 10% number. It's the whole customization "look what my character looks like" thing, I guess, that brings them on the boat? Also the false sense of belonging? Although I'd say half the girls I know who play the game aren't really interested in "guilds" and "raiding" and whatever. I guess WoW looks nice and is fun to explore (the first time around anyway). It's also easy to just sit in the game and IM on other programs at the same time, or in-game.

Wait, there's character customization in WoW? They all looked the same to me.

True, it's more with the over-the-top look of the equipment. Everything is so over-the-top though that it all looks the same, as you said. I believe that they now have a "hairdresser" where you can pay in-game money to change your hair style and they have a lot of new hair styles. Um... Who's that catering to you think? hehe. At least it's not real world money, as they ask of you when you want to switch server or even change your character's name (that's a big WTH for me).

People who want a character who looks different than every other fricking character or decide he needs a change of hair to suit the character of now and not the character of then.

At this point, having a character that looks different is actually easier if you don't change it, 'cause everybody else feels the need to use the new features.

So what's the gameplay like in those horse games, what are you supposed to do?

I have Sims 2 but haven't played it much. It was the lack of things available to satisfy needs that bugged me, I think I could dig the game idea though.

Oh yeah, definitely, I play very many girly games. Dulce et decorum est.

A lot of it is just riding them around the jumps and stuff. Some of the better ones have stories, too, such as the Lexis Numerique ones I mentioned. (There are a few bugs too -- in the one I'm currently playing, there's subtitles. And one character calls me "Princess" in the dubs, but the subtitles say "Wombat"!)

Although it seems easy, it can actually get tricky at times, trying to control the horse correctly. Because you have to press several keys at once, and they're all over the keyboard. And the stories can be hard too -- puzzles, for example. In one horse game, the crazy mayor of a village locked me in an abandoned prison to die. And I had to figure out how to get out.

There's not much blood either, unless you accidentally hurt your horse. And hardly any violence at all, except in the story part of the game, and even that's mild (like characters shoving each other around). So probably wouldn't appeal to some people.
