In Warlords It didn't seem to be possible to give cities to vassals. Is this still the case in BTS?

You can't give cities to vassals because it would enable you to break the capitulation treaty if you gave enough to boost them above the population / land freedom requirement. It could be considered an exploit that would allow you to prepare for a final war to complete wiping them out while they are under your thumb. Then you could free them by giving cities and finish wiping them out.

So, no, in BTS you still cannot give cities to vassals / capitulates

Surely there's plenty of other ways to break a capitulation treaty. Its quite unrealistic as it stands. I'm sure a better way could be found to stop this exploit. I want to give cities to vassals, so I can build them up their empires, any really good cities will already have been grabbed.

No, there really is no way besides giving cities to another civ. That would be a pretty bad idea, though, and would probably end up causing the player to lose the game anyway. Although unrealistic, the game balance is specific and carefully plotted. I am open to any other suggestions on how to stop the exploit.

Can you liberate a city to a capitulate? I thought Firaxis prevented this in order to keep a lid on a possible war-capitulate-rebuild forces-liberate cities-war exploit cycle. I could be quite wrong, though.

When did gifting become a vassal option? This is mind boggling to me! I can understand liberation, but just plain gifting? Can someone verify this, i'm at work!

I don't think you can gift cities, only liberate back cities they previously owned. I will often liberate back one or two if they're a bit crappy and will only be costing me money to keep.

I've given cities to my capitulated vassels. Often times I'll conqueor thier civ enough for them to capitulate and liberate them thier own cities back.

My cities are constantly begging to join my vassal's empire but he asked to become a vassal he didn't capitulate.

Doesn't that indicate that you can give your cities to your vassal?

most of the time, it is better to keep the extra cities unless it's at or surrounded by tundra/desert/island/mountain. Sometimes when I play w/ maps that have multiple islands/continents, liberate the captured city enable to use your forces to concentrate on the next target.
