It is possible at this point (in 410BC) to negotiate the following deals for peace at no monetary cost:
Rome - by giving them Monotheism, or Monarchy, or Engineering
Iroquois - by giving them Monarchy or Engineering
China - same as Iroquois
India - same as Iroquois
Aztecs - by giving them Engineering

It is probably possible to make all five deals above at the same time. There is a small chance that not all five deals could be made - as tech is traded to some Civs, it will become less valuable and a subsequent deal using the same tech might not be possible. But at the very least, three deals for peace could certainly be made. Odds are good that all five can be made.

Reasons this might be a good thing to do:

1) These are probably no-cost deals. All of the techs involved are known to at least two other Civs already. It seems likely that within a few turns, all five Civs mentioned above will know all the techs listed above through cheap trading regardless of whether we make these peace deals.

2) These peace deals would take a bit of the heat off.

3) It seems important to strive for peace with all rivals, except those we specifically target for war, in the near future. It also seems important to try to get peace with all of them at the same time, to preclude another domino effect, where one Civ at war with us purchases alliances to bring others in. So it will be important after any initial peace deals to try to get peace with others fairly soon after, definitely within 20 turns I think.

These deals might of course be unnecessary. The other nations will become easier to deal with for peace over time. But by the time we can get a cheaper deal for peace they may well have all these technologies.

If these deals are to be made, I suggest making them in the following order, in case the last two happen to not be workable after making the first three:
1) Rome - Monotheism
2) Iroquois - Monarchy
3) Aztecs - Engineering
4) China - Monarchy or Engineering, or both
5) India - Monarchy or Engineering, or both
Edit: A few of the deals can also include a bit of cash from the other nation for us. Not a lot, but every bit helps.

Note that after the peace deals, there might be further possible useful trades with some of the above nations. But I think that can be treated as a separate issue from this question regarding peace deals.

I think this Idea is an valid attemt at clearing our back. Although, we should consider getting peace with all the other civs aswell within 20 turns from this deal. Except for Egypt and America.

The Trade Department fully agrees with SirPleb.

A1 analysis, SirPleb. If the trade department concurs, I see no drawbacks, but only plentiful benefits.

I would also like to add that we might wish to account for some costs related to establishing embassies after peace deals so our neighbours will look more kindly on us. What is our technology selling policy? Perhaps we can get additional gold after peace is obtained with everyone?

maybe we can also implement a good world-map trading policy. we could get some extra money from this, and i believe the ai already knows everything we know about our lands

Excellent reasoning SirPleb!:goodjob:

Despite this I voted NO! First of all I am apalled that we would even consider peace with the Aztecs. Have we not already voted that we will only make peace with the Aztecs on a peace for peace basis (unless of course Monty wants to give US stuff)? We would not give the Aztecs our map before so why would we give them technology now that they have destroyed Falcon's Haven?

They may well get the techs anyway but that does not mean they have to get them from us.

Only make peace with techs when their forces are actually in sight and threatening our cities. We're not a republic/demo and suffering fr war weariness, no?

Otherwise no since we're actually winning. Equal peace with distant nations shld be done though.

I vote yes, with a modification. If I read the post correctly, all but Aztecs would settle for Monarchy. I would try to make peace with as many nations as possible for the same tech (in this case Monarchy). If you make deals with three nations, for three different techs, they will trade them amongst themselves, and all will catch up that much faster. At least if they all get the same tech, they can't trade it to get more. This would mean that all deals are made the same turn, which is fine. Also, it is possible that as you get to the 3rd or 4th nation, the tech value would drop off to the point they wont settle for that, that point would be my cutoff. Prioritize the list as you had it, but only for the one tech (Monarchy).
This leaves the Aztecs out of the mix, but I think there is still some strong war sentiment against them anyway, and if we give them engineering, it will make the rounds pretty quickly.

The problem is, that we might not be able to trade the same tech for peace. And most of them have Monarchy if I remember correctly.

I believe only 4 of them do gf

I fully support this idea, as it will only be a few turns before these civs get these techs. It will allow us to focus almost entirely on the Americans and the Egyptians.

I was basing my proposal off of the listing from SirPleb, where 4 of the 5 said they would settle for Monarchy. If that turns out not to work, I would still limit it to one tech, and if we only get 2-3 peace deals out of it, thats better off than we are. I would prefer not to give away Middle Age techs right now, they will be more valuable for sale, and if we give it to one civ, the others will have it in no time.

I agree with Justus that we should try to give monarchy to every one. Since most distant nations don't have it why give up Engineering when we don't need to. I f we do other nations will profit from selling our Techs. :0
