Shaken, not stirred.
It is possible at this point (in 410BC) to negotiate the following deals for peace at no monetary cost:
Rome - by giving them Monotheism, or Monarchy, or Engineering
Iroquois - by giving them Monarchy or Engineering
China - same as Iroquois
India - same as Iroquois
Aztecs - by giving them Engineering
It is probably possible to make all five deals above at the same time. There is a small chance that not all five deals could be made - as tech is traded to some Civs, it will become less valuable and a subsequent deal using the same tech might not be possible. But at the very least, three deals for peace could certainly be made. Odds are good that all five can be made.
Reasons this might be a good thing to do:
1) These are probably no-cost deals. All of the techs involved are known to at least two other Civs already. It seems likely that within a few turns, all five Civs mentioned above will know all the techs listed above through cheap trading regardless of whether we make these peace deals.
2) These peace deals would take a bit of the heat off.
3) It seems important to strive for peace with all rivals, except those we specifically target for war, in the near future. It also seems important to try to get peace with all of them at the same time, to preclude another domino effect, where one Civ at war with us purchases alliances to bring others in. So it will be important after any initial peace deals to try to get peace with others fairly soon after, definitely within 20 turns I think.
These deals might of course be unnecessary. The other nations will become easier to deal with for peace over time. But by the time we can get a cheaper deal for peace they may well have all these technologies.
If these deals are to be made, I suggest making them in the following order, in case the last two happen to not be workable after making the first three:
1) Rome - Monotheism
2) Iroquois - Monarchy
3) Aztecs - Engineering
4) China - Monarchy or Engineering, or both
5) India - Monarchy or Engineering, or both
Edit: A few of the deals can also include a bit of cash from the other nation for us. Not a lot, but every bit helps.
Note that after the peace deals, there might be further possible useful trades with some of the above nations. But I think that can be treated as a separate issue from this question regarding peace deals.
