(I apologize if this has already been brought up. It wasn't in the first ten pages of suggestions, anyway.)

Many people (including myself) have taken it upon themselves to improve the official city lists included in the game. This would seem to imply that the official city lists are lacking in quality, quantity, or both. (As a matter of fact, they are lacking in both quality and quantity.)

I make this thread to request that some time be put into the official Civ IV city lists - please, oh please, save us the time of having to make better ones! Would 40-50 accurately and consistently named, properly-ordered cities per civ be too much to ask?

This is one change that won't dramatically affect game play, the size of the program, or the price of production. But it will make many people much more content.

This is a good suggestion. I think the developers should count on the community for stuff like this sooner. A few historically minded civilization players could do it better than anybody. (Not talking about myself, unfortunately. I'm no historian, although I do a lot of reading.)

At the beta testing phase, they ought to include this as an action item. "How would you improve the city lists?" Someone would pull off a great one.

Another thing that bugs me: They used the accursed Wade-Giles system of Chinese transliteration! That is a completely inaccurate and incoherent system. Use Pinyin, for God's sake! It's more accurate and coherent. There are a few new sounds, I know, but at least it is coherent! Not using the same symbol for two different sounds, and then using two different ones for the same one, like W-G! It's completely backwards!

As far as city lists are concerned, you should have a look in the Civ3 thread.
Around April-May last year, some people already collected some better lists for the nations which are in Civ3. I don't know though, if those lists are complete.

Some of their citylists look like they didn't even have an atlas. Why so few cities for Germany and China? I can come up with 50 cities easy. And WTH is "Lauwersoog" for the Dutch?

Is it too hard to find some more and real city names? Some of Ottoman and Arab cities are wrong. And there are lots of unimportant towns instead of major cities.
