Glitch during diplomatic relations

I just came across this glitch while playing today. After exchanging technologies, it seems to exit out of the diplomatic talks and then goes back in, all of the graphics go crazy. I've attached a picture and a save right before it. On the save, just click on the sail right next to south america, and land next to the chinese. I've noticed that this doesn't happen if you don't exchange technology. Any ideas as to what is going on?

I fear you have ventured into the land of unintentional consequences. Other that the movement factors for Settlers, Sail and Transport what other modifications have been made. Will a CRC16 test produce results different than that of an unmolested civ EXE?
All in all truly a different result at first I thought it had renamed a pic file. I can’t imagine what (in my case an unaltered EXE) could corrupt a SVE file to make it show the wrong background. Pretty neat. And yes I got the same result.
I’ll repeat myself what other changes did you make?

Code:
 Settlers 3
 Sail 40
 Transport 40

Just some terrain modifications, adding food and shields to every square, that's it. This makes for a much faster game - not even AD yet and there are cities of 19 and 20.
Oh one more thing, a while back (I didn't think to make a copy of the save file back then) Rome built two wonders of the world in two or three turns. You can look at the replay data and see it. Very interesting.

The picture reminds me a bit of the old shift 5-6 cheat....

This bug always happens when you exchange knowledge AND get invention out of it. Apparently the game tries to switch to the modern advisor graphics during negotiations and the current diplomacy screen gets corrupted but remains functional. It doesn't really sound logical as it should bug out when the AI gets invention, not the player - I don't think that having invention affects the diplomacy screen in any way... But that's just the way things are. I thought this was well known bug, I've experienced it for ages.

Have I ever heard of this bug? Senile or do I live under a rock. I can’t ever remember this being discussed. I can only assume, as invention is a beeline advance on the way to railroad that I have never run across another civilization that has it before I do. Searching the forum I can’t find a reference to it (Invention Bug) or what would it be called. Thanks Mize, I was think of all kinds of file corruption.
My test of this is attached. English have alphabet, Aztecs have invention, move northwest and exchange.

Interesting, that does make sense, since the cabinet changes once you get invention... Never thought it would happen in the middle of talking with another civ though. You learn something new everyday. :)

I remember seeing this glitch a few times, it's similar to the case where you trade for a tech that makes your current barracks obsolete. It's only a graphical bug, though, and not harmful :)

Btw, kirkham, don't you have lag issues running DosBox with only 3000 cycles? For me Civ 1 looked terrible until I increased the emulated CPU speed (have it at 20k ATM).

Actually, it looks quite good on my laptop, and doesn't really lag much at all. I might tweek it someday a bit, but its just fine at the moment.
