Global Wake All Units

I am new to the Civ III world and am already fully addicted. I have one question I haven't been able to answer in the manual or online. When I have units fortifying many cities during peace time and then go to war, it is drudgery to go to each city and wake units. Is there a global wake up command that would wake all "sleeping units" without having to go to each city or square they are located. Thanks

Moderator Action: Welcome to CivII doubdig,

I am moving your question to the General Discussion forum because the answer to this question will perhaps benefit other new players in that forum as well. The General forum is probably the best place for general questions about commands and buttons. - cracker

I really doubt it, as I've never seen nor heard of such a thing, so I'm very sure the answer is no.

I wish there was. About the best you can do is right click on a city & scroll down the list to "wake all" below fortify all. Unfortunatly you have to do this to each & every city.

(Later) in a game, I tend to stock-pile units:
I put stacks of cavalry, arty etc on one specific tile or into a chosen city. Usually I have different spots for different unit types, newly built units join the respective stacks and fortifiy. I tend to stock-pile defensive units at the border (probably in a fortress or mountain, mainly a tile I don't want to be occupied by a sudden ai invasion).
These stacks are convenient to wake: right-click a stack, choose "wake all" at the bottom of the list and there you go. For fortified mixed stacks, you could also use "wake all", "stack go-to" (press "j") and eventually "fortify all" to seperate different unit kinds fast & easy.
Elite units that could be upgraded are always collected outside a city (or in a barracks free city), so they don't lose their elite status by accident during a mass-upgrade process.

edit: corrected stack-go-to command, it's just "j" and not "shift-j" (auto-clear jungle tiles within borders), as I formerly stated. :)

Yes, like Grille says. When I first started playing I would always fortify everything in the city it was built. What a hassle. It's much easier to put stacks of them out in the open. Not HUGE stacks, just around 8-10.

BUT that only works once you have steam power & railroads all over the map. If you start stacking units before you have unlimitied movement you're basically shooting yourself in the head.:suicide:

It can work with roads and ICS.

Like everyone else, I agree that you should stack units by type outside of your city if you can get that stack quickly to any potential warzones (meaning you have railroads or are stacking near a border).

You should also stack workers later in the game (foreign workers should probably be stacked separately).

Is there a stack goto as well? I get really bored when moving 30+ artillery to the other side of my contentent!!

It does exist in PTW.

Like everyone else when I start stockpiling units I stockpile by type outside a city, usually by my palace or FP city, I fortify all but one of them so I don't forget to wake that stack up in case of a war.

Another helpful hint is your military advisor screen -- you can view and wake units without scrolling all over the world map.
