I have 2 questions for you, for which I can't find the answers in the manual.

1- In the Game of the month, I played until 2026 AD and reached the industrial age. When I changed the age, a yellow spot appeared on the control box, where it's written "press ENTER or SPACE to continue".
What does that mean? Is it an indication of pollution & global warming? There isn't much on global warming in tha manual so please help on the significance of that yellow sun-like spot.

2- In the Foreign advisor screen, I noticed small circles next to heads of foreign leaders. Some have them, some don't. What do these circles mean?

Thanks!

LOL... that just means that all of your units are busy or garrisoned so press space to finsih that turn.
for the second question- I have no idea.

The yellow icon is the sun. Once it appears, it means that pollution is having an effect on the planet and that global warming is beginning (even though it might be small at that point).

No shirley. Not at all. If you have all your units on fortify or doing something you might want to change one. If it didnt ask for approval when you had all your units working you would never get to go because your turn would come and leave you. If you dont believe me set "Always ask before ending turn" or whatever in the optioons. The flashing orange light on the key will be there after every turn from 4000BC on.

since you can have much more civs than fit in the wheel of diplomacy (my term! you know the pictures you click) if you right click it will give you a menu of other civ leaders who are not on the wheel and will replace the one you have right clicked.

after, all the relationsships (war, peace, etc) will also be corrected to reflect that civ.

got it?

totally agree the manual is not at all exhaustive

I'm not sure what the flashing orange thing when all your troops are fortified/busy for a turn is that you guys are talking about.

But I'm quite sure that the original poster was asking about the sun icon that appears in the upper left of that text window in the lower right of your screen. The brightness of the sun is an indication of how drastic global warming is. It shows up when you hit the industrial age. It is not there before that. This is mentioned in the manual as well, and I'm pretty sure I remember something similar from a previous version of Civ.

Thanks for your answers, it clears up everything. I realized yesterday (while playing) that the small dots on the Foreign advisor screen were indicating whether or not I had an embassy with that civ. I noticed that it appeared in the text box that shows up right after establishing an embassy.

I also believed the yellow spot was the sun. Your comments made that belief stronger. One question, though: I never had the chance to play much in the Industrial age. any idea of how it looks when things go reeeeeeeaaaaaaaal bad? and where is it written in the manual? Okay, that's 2 questions...

P.S.: BTW, I wasn't talking about the orange/blue spot that flashes when requested to hit the space bar. I was talking about a yellow spot that appears only after you hit the Industrial age.

I think it's also on the civ3 site in one of the "Ask the Developer" lists.. I had some tiles turn into Desert after getting a message to the effect of "Global Warning has turning some land near <city> into desert" so you'll know when you are affected by global warning. And it was during the industrial age.

Build some factories, some offshore platforms, a few coal plants.... it becomes very obviously a bright sun :)
