God, War & Politics – The Rebirth of France

It is quite obvious that we have lost our chances for victory. Now the question is whether we will survive. I'd like to try.

In case we have lost there is a new game strating up, I suppouse. In that case, Yahzuk, please let me know when do you start the appointments for mayor list, because I'd like to be on it.

My last suggestion regarding the rules. Maybe you should be the one to choose city location, not the mayor. From the role playing perspective is even more correct. An emperor creates a settling party, gives command over it to one of the nobles, and directs him to go and place a city somewhere.

In that case the noble might be even able to choose which side of the river the city will be placed on but definetely his not the one to choose in which region the city will be placed.

Have been lurking on this post for a while. Well done, thanks for putting in the effort everyone was a joy to read.

I would agree with grzybek's thought. I think that similar to all other decisions in that there should be a vote on where the next city should go, with the new mayor having some sort of say it in. I don't know exactly how the mechanics would work, but I think this would be interesting.

I this game, I think that it woudl have been an interesting vote on where to found the 4th city (Troyes?), with Paris wanting to place it on the front lines to relieve pressure from germany, yahzuk probably wanting to place it on the iron, and the other mayors falling on one side or the other.

A couple of next game hints in response to the comments.

Spoiler :

@Centurion - The civilization for the next game is already set. I'm afraid it isn't any of the three you suggested.

Signups for the next game will start when the rules are posted, which will be after we end this one.

In the next game there will be more than one player per city, so we'll get more players into the game faster.

When additional players are required in the next game, they will be randomly selected from the waiting list. However, not everyone's odds of selection will be equal. They will be weighted based on 2 things, one of which is the number of turns they've been on the waiting list. I'll be counting the time anyone spent on the waiting list this game, so if you got stuck on the list for a long time, you'll be in a good position for an early spot next game. (The other factor is something else!)

Dear Diary:

This shall be my last entry. The Persians are ravaging the countryside. They ride their horses clad in armor we have never seen or even conceived. Though they have trouble in our crowded streets, they have no trouble in burning our city to the ground. Their horses thunder through the streets, kicking up dust and charging through carts and people with an unnatural single-mindedness. We have no defenses any longer, and our spearman unit, who stood the only chance against these beasts, has been forced to flee and attempt to salvage the settler on whom we pin the hopes of Orleans' people. I'm afraid we shall not be able to hold out much longer.
Since I obviously am not fit to lead these people, I have resigned.

My shame is eternal.

Former Mayor of Orleans,
Rudragun

--------

I don't mind starting a new game, considering I'm out of this one anyway.

I was drawn to this forum by the mods, and was convinced to sign up because of this thread. Really entertaining game you've made, yahzuk, whether reading it or, I'm sure, playing it. I would like to be added to the increasingly large waiting list please :D. I'm in no hurry to play, though, since the idea of this game is new too me. So I don't mind waiting for a game or two.

The Mayor of Paris would like to stick it out to the end. If Paris falls, the game is over. Our strongest city shall be gone along with 2 unique luxuries and our entire worker force. Add walls to the production screen, then build longswords (if possible) or catapults. Vive la France!

I would like to be added to the list for next game as well, please.

Memo to General yahzuk:

Despite your courageous campaign you have faced the inevitable fate among squabbling politicians. Hindsight being 20-20, it is evident we should have crushed Egypt when we had the chance. I have packed my measly belongings and await orders to settle in a new world. Hopefully I can have companions who play by CiV rules and do not, as CenturionXX in his last attempt, invoke outdated tactics from CIV.

So, put me in coach, I'm ready to play, today.

Your Humble Servant,

Ceskari

I don't think the difficulty is the problem. We kinda got screwed with city placement and surrounded by other CIVs. I wish to see another set of turn I believe we can give them a massive blow to their egos but in the grand scheme of things I think we are toast.

A sad day in the history of the world :(

I never got to help my nation flourish. However, since I was never one of the political elite I shall slip into the night and seek refuge in a new nation far from here....

.... can I still be on you list please?

Of course, if you do another I'd love to be a mayor again. It was great fun while I wasn't under seige.

Mayor Sparthage, sir! Do you think my proposal could save our floundering empire, or should we fight it to the end. I shall be joining Onesime fighting to the end! I wish you luck. Who knows? We could survive to the end. I also put a Vote of No Confidence for Sparthage. I shall with General Yahzuk's permission, head to Orleans, and try to rescue LegionSteve, and Rudragon, so they can flee.

I also put a Vote of No Confidence for Sparthage.
Umm... why? I don't think you can do that. And also, I am staying on to the (probably) bitter end.

edit: @Centurion- You proposal could work only if "Require Complete Kill" is turned on. If it is, then I will consider trying to get a settler off (How long would it take to build?)

Hello Fanatics, sorry to go dark for a few days there, a family emergency came up. I'm afraid I still won't be able to do anything with the game until next week, or possibly this weekend.

Looks like we have general agreement that we've lost this game, with some degree of curiousity as to how long we could last. But due to the timing of things, it works out more convieniently for me to post the rules for the next game so folks have a few days to read over them and sign up and start up the new game next week.

So, we are going to move on, but sometime when there is a lull in the action, we will come back to our French friends and see what happens to them.

Final note - I'm afraid I will need to ask you to go over to the new thread (to be created shortly) to sign up. The rules are different enough that I want folks to read them before commiting and also there's an additional piece of information I need with your signups.

So, thanks you all for your interest/participation in this game and I hope to see you all over in the new one!

A link to the new thread here would be of use.

Patience, young one. He said he had a family emergency and the new thread is right here. ;)

Well, I left it up to the esteemed General to put the link in... found it anyway already, but, thanks.
