Playing Scandinavia (with Conquest pack) I triggered a golden age when my unique unit (Berserk) won a battle against an english spearmen. But directly after that I can´t any longer build any Berserks! Any Ideas why or even better how to solve it?

I took a look at the map (Marla´s europe map something I believe) in the conquest editor and the only thing I could find their was that for some reason the Berserk upgraded to longbowmen, which happens to be available with the same science advance. Coult that have something to do with it? It should be said altough that before the golden age I could build both berserks and longbowmen togheter, so don´t seem to be a crash there.

Oh, when on the subject. Is there any possibilty to edit the scenario/map rules through a saved game?

Please help, I need my Berserks! :)

Once you get to the point where you can build the unit to which your Unique Unit, as long as you have not had your Golden Age. As soon as: (1) you've triggered your Golden Age; and (2) you can build the unit to which the UU upgrades, your ability to build the UU expires.

With some UUs, it can be very helpful to build hordes of them right before triggering the GA, just so you have them on hand. After all, you don't *have* to upgrade them if you don't want to.

What you could consider doing for your next game is setting up a .biq file with the Berserks set to upgrade to Marines, so you have them for a while. You do need to check all of the units upgrades to make sure that you do not break any upgrade paths, or give some other unit the Marine upgrade. I play on continent and archipelago maps a lot, so having an amphibious unit early is a big plus. The AI does have this tendency to settle on one tile islands. Of course, so do I. Makes it hard to be knocked out of the game.

That sounds like a bug. I don't think you should be able to build both.

I'd say a bug. In general, UU's replace a specific unit and that unit can't be built. Believe me, if I could build both Archers and JT's as the Maya, I definitely would, thusly avoiding an early GA.

If the UU and the unit it replaces require different resources, you can build both, by temporarily disconnecting one or the other of the resources. For example the Dutch can nomally not build muskets, but if you disconnect iron, required for the swiss mercs, and connect salt, you can. This is BTW not what you want to do, as muskets are twice as expensive, and both units have defense 4. The point of a UU is in part to provide a better version of the unit it replaces, so it should indeed be strange if you can build both.

In this case, Longbows and Berserks are not resource dependent, so to be able to build both means at least a moderate glitch. Some mods can cause problems like that, so I'd be curious to know if the OP is running any. In an ordinary, non-glitched game of Civ 3, Berserks can be built until Replaceable Parts(Guerillas), so having a GA should not keep them from being built.
