I wandered abit and found a decent site.The city square was forest so I had to cut it down which delayed founding the city until 3550bc.I had problems with tech choices and changing research rates but managed a respectable landing date.A mined silk gave the city silk,wine,whale and wheat.

Barbs made numerous landings but,of course,1 city is immune to barb attacks and,with a diplomat,was able to prevent unwelcome pillaging of land improvements.

I built marco's,which is somewhat unsual but not unheard of for OCC and it paid for itself many times in contact,techs and gifts from alliances.

Trade was fairly lucrative with some cargo yeilding 1000+ bonus each.

I ended the game with a population of 4,350,000(size 29)which,according to demographics,had me #1 in population with 1 city.Not a very strong testament for the AI.....

That was a helluva job there, Smash!

Perhaps one of these days we could have some comparison OCC games to play against one another. OCC Game of the Month if you will.

It could be easier to score and compare as we'd just be concerned with finishing dates. Also, it would be a type of game that nearly everyone could complete (win or lose) in the given month.

GJ Smash, A very good way to end a deity game.
I'm currently at 1760, and I can finish the game by conquest in a few turns , but I hesitate because I'm still not sure that civ will top out by just merely "taking over" the map, maybe I should spend some time researching and land a ship like you.
 
Aaarrgghhh!!!!!

I just got a god scare in the current GotM. I have just build Marco's Embassy in 700BC and talked to all the other Civs. And the Russians have 22 cities!!!! And they aren't all that far away from me - aarrghhh panic!!!!!!!!

I had better get some control over the happiness of my civ so I can max the tax rate to get enough money to buy the out.......

22 cities by 700bc? Thats incredible for the AI. I dont think anyone of them had more than 12 cities ever in my game.


Anyway I finished this one by 1140ad, the same year I finised Gotm3

I used almost the same strategy this time. Which is to build 8-10 cities, celebrate them to size 8 and trade like mad until I have leadership, navigation and democracy. Then switch to fundy and take over the world with vet dragoons transported in fast moving caravels.

Some highlights:

650bc - Hanging gardens
325bc - Oracle, switch to repuplic
175bc - stop celebrating, cities: 8 size 8 and 2 size 7
125bc - Marco polos embassy
40ad - Mike's (now I dont need lux, mike's, oracle and HG does the job)

Trade a lot and build Magellan's, Suntzu and Statue of liberty

600ad - switch to fundy, had around 1800 gold and started to buy lots of dragoons, and caravels

1020 - one AI city left, switch to demo, start celebrating

1140 - Buy the last city

 
22 cities. Naaah. Shadowdale's just had one too many and he's seeing double!

Smash and Knigget... what do your scores/turn#s translate to in terms of GOTM score (the new exponential formula)?

Well I have been drinking, but only a little and only because the weather is soo good!!!

But actually they really had 22 cities!!!

Russia : 22 cities
Vikings : 6 cities
Egyptians : 12 cities
Sioux : 6 cities
English : 0 cities

I'm not sure, but I think this is the right formula...

GOTM score=A*B^((D-C)/D)=1102*50^((420-158)/420)=12649
 
You only missed out the final divide by 200.
If your normal Civ score was 1102 and you finished on turn 158, then your final score is 63.2. Which is very good!

Not very high I don't think as 1 city isn't going to score well even though I WAS #1 in population in my game.That is very pathetic for the ai.I'd have to land much earlier but even then most of the game you aren't doing the main things that are needed to raise scores.All efforts go into trade and research mixed with "pre Space Flight" construction of your spaceship(caravans/freights)
 
Just some things I've noted as I've read the first official ending from GOTM4

Smash: Way to go! Excellent negotiation skills, which are one of the best assets in Deity.

Kev: OCC GOTM... aside from being a frikkin long acronym, it's also a very intriguing idea... Matrix, comments?

shadowdale: creepy, I've never seen the AI get that many cities in any difficulty level. They must've lucked out with starting location.

Finally, to all: While I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of posting logs so that others can see the method behind our madness, perhaps it would be best to wait until the end of the month, when GOTM submissions are no longer being accepted? I can't wait to try the map with my own strategy, but there are some who will bend your own strategy and abuse your hard work to rack up their own score. Dirty rotten scoundrels...

Anyways, that's all. I'm starting the game tonite.

I had never noticed that the black area on the map will actually reveal its true self. But a simple test shows that tiles with a "1" suffix are water. I never have to lose a trireme to the open ocean again. Thanks, Smash.
