good FREE c/c++ compiler

I dont know if C++ uses a compilers, but I do have a book on C, and it says I need a compiler. I plan on learning C++ soon, but for the moment, I am just going to see how regular C goes. So if anyone can direct me to a good, FREE c and/or C++ compiler, that would be great.

there is a thread in this forum where someone asked for a c++ compiler, Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 is my recommendation, based upon a good VB and J# IDE that I have used. I will find the forum link and direct you there, you might find it useful.

Dev-C++ and Eclipse are both good, though Eclipse uses a lot of memory (JRE).
