The funny thing is my closest allies have usually been warmongers like Atilla or Hiawatha. This mainly down to them being on the other side of the leaders I genuinely fear like Alex... or Catherine.
The peaceful civs tend to be the ones I get a long with least, more often than not. In fact I don't think I've ever had a game where I gotten on with Ghandi! (the little attention seeker!).
