Good Religion for Amurites

satyrs are recon units with strength 4, movement 2, and the woodsmen 1 promotion. They are basically hunters that are 50% more expensive (but thus cheaper to upgrade to rangers) that start with woodsmen 1 and which still have full strength when attacking cities.

How about inter-racial upgrading from satyrs to (human) rangers? I thought they were trying to avoid it

A higher form of Satyr is planned (and actually finished, I believe. The graphics have already been shown, including larger horns and apparently wooden armor) and will be introduced in .30, Shadow. Upgrading to "human" rangers was just temporary so that they wouldn't be useless in the mid-to-late game while their real upgraded form was still being designed. (The civilopedia suggests that the "human" rangers are actually half human, half elven)

So that's why they had two different satyrs in the pictures

As I recall, Satyrs may also be getting an animal taming promotion.

I think it has been suggested that instead of the subdue animal promotion, the upgraded form will get a spell that can capture animals without combat.

OO has better heroes for Amurites and a much better mana than AV, so I vote for OO. (Note that OO temples allow 1 Scientist too, the supposed scientific advantage of AV is not so big, especially since the Necronomicon income could net you a +10-20% more on science investement, which is often better than the 20-30 beakers from the Stigmata; staying neutral means you can go for an Altar victory, and the extra culture from OO can let you achieve a cultural victory, in case there are no other viable options).

When I got my first Tower of Mastery victory I actually got every religion founded except the Order, which I captured after their shrine was built.

But usually I played as Dain when I played the Amurites, and as I was always doing a specialist economy, I went for AV. Sacrifice the weak just allows you to have so many specialists.
